S&W 27-2?

A friend of mine saw a S&W 27-2 with a 6" ish barrel at a pawn shop for $1,000, he said it had a black dull finish. I told him that I was only aware of the 27-2 being offered in blued or nickel finish.
I told him to call S&W about this and give them the serial #, as I suspect the gun was refinished but I'm no expert.
A little help would be appreciated.
 
Go over to the S&W forum and post pictures and the serial number. They will tell you all they can about it.

You can try the same thing here. Not sure what you will get. Lots of S&W experts though.
 
Model 28 would have a matte finish, model 27 a high polish blue or nickel.
If it’s a 27, not 28, then it has been refinished.

Yes...I had a model 28 that I had converted to .44 Spl. back when .44 Specials were scarce. The Model 28 was called the "Highway Patrolman", had a Black Matte finish.

The Highway Patrolman (model 28) doesn't have a matt black finish. S&W calls the finish "Satin Blue". The high polish finish on the 27 is "high luster blue"

My personal preference is the Satin Blue on the model 28. I just like the way it looks better than high polish blue finishes.

My Model 27-2 has a high polished bright blued finish, my 28-2 (Highway Patrolman) has the satin blued finish. I have never seen a Model 27 with a matt black finish. A matt finish to me implies a sort of black parkerized finish. Mine look just like the images KyJim posted. Not sure exactly what a "black dull" finish is?
