S&W 27-2

After looking for many years, I finally managed to find a Model 27. you would think that they would be somewhat common, but in the area where I used to live, I had not seen a single example for sale. Because I was living in the Peoples Republic of California, I couldn't even get one off of one of the auction sites.

I walked into a LGS here in Reno today and I found this M27-2 languishing in the used gun case. A quick examination showed that it was in 99+% condition. I made an offer on it and they accepted.

Serial number dates it to 1977-78

That's a beauty alright. It's somewhat unusual to see a 27 with target sights, trigger and hammer. Very nice.

What is different about the one in the picture? Looks the same as my 27's and most others I have looked at. But I might not be recognizing something you are.

highpower, congrats. The M-27 series was the flagship of Smith and Wesson's production revolvers. My first one was a 6" such as yours and it's the sweetest shooting revolver I've shot.

I just received my 3 1/2" M 27 - 2 yesterday, and before I could start the transfer paper work I had a serious offer of a 25% profit. Which after 30 or so seconds I turned down. No wonder I'll never be a rich man.

"It's somewhat unusual to see a 27 with target sights, trigger and hammer. Very nice. "

Target options were always available on the 357 Magnums and later Model 27s. Starting in 1975 all 27-2s came with full target features. I think this is a mistake on the 3.5" versions but apparently mine is a minority opinion.

S.P., my 6" M 27-2 came with the three t's. The 3 1/2" I purchased from Lee J., has magnas, standard trigger, and hammer.

Do a google images search on S&W Model 27 and you'll see a lot of 27s with ramp front sight and service trigger and hammer. There will be quite a few with target features as well. They may have made all of them with target features after 1975, but I suspect that the number produced in the late 70s and 80s was less than in previous decades.

I hope we can agree that it's still very nice. ;)

highpower3006, beautiful gun, congratulations on a great find.
I have a S&W model 27, one of my favorite revolvers.

old bear, nice revolver, I don't blame you for hanging on to it.
You may not have taken the offer but I would consider you rich in better ways.:)

I bought one in August for $350 that had some pretty serious problems with the bluing. It's been at Ford's Gun Refinishing since then, and if I ever see it again, I hope it comes back to me looking as nice as your's.

Good luck. I have never heard a bad word about Ford's work. Just out of curiosity, how much did they say it was going to cost?
