S&W 27-2 serial number prefix?

I have seen various serial number prefixes among S&W 27-2 models, including "N" and "S" designations. Can anyone clarify the significance of the different designations?
Somebody told me his opinion that the S-guns have generally smoother actions. Any consensus or other opinions?

27-2 began production in 1961, the serial number prefix switched to N in 1969.

There is no tried and true correlation of any kind that can be drawn between the prefix and the inherent quality of manufacture.

If you have one, hang on to it. I've got a 27-2 N and its one of the sweetest 357s I've ever shot! Mine is 6 inch. I'd love to find a 4inch that 98 to 99% like mine!!
