S&W 25 LC finally found

I haven’t been to a gun show since the madness started a few years ago. I’ve wanted a S&W 25 in LC for some time,
so I decided to hit the gun show.

I got there early Friday shortly after opening, already way busy; scanned the isles and looked no further,
when I saw this beauty for fear it would be snapped up.

It checked out mechanically and I checked for oversize bore it and it was good.
Looks to have been shot very little and there is no residue on the front of the cylinder or wear on the recoil shield.

Haggled a little and settled on $750.

I looked for one of those for a decade. I finally found one several years ago online. No box, no papers, no tools, but in pristine condition.

By the time all was said and done I think I paid close to $900 for it.

I scored my Model 25 4" barrel Mountain Gun in .45 Colt almost a year ago for $853,33, It is my favorite revolver.

Reloading the .45 Colt round is also enjoyable. There are so many combinations to be able to tune your round to your prey

Congratulations on great find, beautiful S&W, I'm sure you will enjoy it.

I missed on one several years back that had a 45 ACP cylinder along with the 45 Colt cylinder, I waited to long, it sold.

I had one back around 1990 and sold if for lack of interest at that time. It was basically just the 4" gun (with original grips) with with no box or papers. I was mostly interested in the 41 mag at that time. Still am, but I wouldn't mind having a M25.

Lucky duck!

I'm always thinking when somebody gets a VERY nice quality firearm (like this) they'll be able to have fun shooting it for durn near a lifetime and then pass it on to their next generation with quite a few rounds left in it.

Made it to my BLM today

No complaints with accuracy, wasn’t one of my better days shooting, even let one get away. All in all, not bad for first outing.

It’s going to need to get detail stripped and cleaned and lubed. The trigger was a bit heavy and I could detect the need for lubrication.

I got a 1970 S&W 25-2 45acp in 2002 off a forum for $360.
I have been loading it with as long an over all length as 1.555" with 300 gr, auto rim brass, and an elaborate crimping system. If it were a 45 Colt I cold be loading that at 1.580", so it is kind of like having the 25-5, which is better.

For 14 years Clark Custom [no relation] has run these guns at 39kcup.

I don't like a 45 chamber with walls 0.065" thick running that high a pressure.
I stay below 28 kpsi, and it kicks as hard as I want to get kicked.

Picked mine up in the early 80’s and it has the pinned barrel. Don’t now the age since I have never looked up the serial number date.
Back when I bought it a group of shooting buddies and I all went out and got 25’s because a good friend and a old coot that let us use his range had one that was older than I am and looked it.
I paid under 300$ for it and it came in a wood case and all the tools. It had been fired but had no cylinder ring and was in as new condition. (and still is)
I have always found that the older 25’s and 27’s have the best of the bluing that S&W did after WW2 and I feel lucky to own a couple.
What you have sir, is not a gun but a gun that is also a work of art.

Detail stripped

Yard chores were done so I decided to detail strip it and see how the inside looked. Well my suspicions were correct.

The inside was bone dry and had some rust. Took it apart and put all the parts in acetone. Not one spec of oil/crud/grease, it was like I never put anything in the acetone.

Blew everything off and checked for wear issues. I found that the cylinder was rubbing on the side of the frame when open. So with the gauge I found that the yoke barrel was slightly low. I adjusted it up slightly and that fixed the alignment and took care of the frame rubbing.

I smoothed out the rough surfaces, installed a wolff spring kit, lubed everything up. Smooth as silk, just like the day it left the factory 30+ years ago.

I am not a fan of special issue guns, but I always liked the 125th anniversary 25. I found this one a few years ago at a reasonable auction price (I think about $700). Great shooter.
