was in dependable gun in Russelville Al. a few hours ago and saw this thing in the display case ; about a 4-4.5" barrel, rounded butt, nice finish(dont know if it was polished stainless or nickle) good and tight w/a superb trigger loved the way it felt in my hand and the fact it will hold 6 of those big old .44 spc. it was sweet and at $680 i thought it was a pretty good deal, i didnt have the cash for it but if any of you S&W guys are in an easy drive i think it would be worth going and getting it.:D
hate to advertise for anyone but somebody with more ready cash then me needs to go and pick it up.

i had $20 in my pocket and I have spent the last 3 weeks in and out of the dr's office with urinary problems so my cash flow is dead right now, just had to walk away with a tear in my eye :(

Unless I am missing something a 24-1 would have been made 1961-62 and would have a square butt. It would also be a hideously expensive gun since I have never heard of a model marked 24 being located. Sales were so slow on this gun after the 44 Magnum came out that by the 1960s they were still selling units that had been made before model numbers were used. Officially production ended in 1966 but in reality I don't think they had made any since around 1957 as they were just setting unsold in inventory.

it had 24-1 stamped inside the frame behind the crane ,sorry but i was drooling on it and did not think of taking any pictures, it had the small rounded grips on it not the big hand fillers

it looked like this, maybe i superimposed the numbers and it was a 21-4 but iswear i think it said 24-1 but i just glanced at it while i had the cylender open.
the pistol i was looking at was this configuration but looked beefier like the model 24's but i havent been able to find a picture that matches up with what i was lookin at, it looked more like the 624 then this 21

Yes that’s a 21. I’ve seen thunder ranch’s selling for 900 recently but haven’t seen a 21-1 for years. Man I would have picked that up if it was nice.
That had to be nickel since they never made a 621 as far as I know. They did make a 624.
I just went looking for a 21-1 for sale to see what kind of prices they are bringing and I can’t find one for sale.
I have seen nuts asking 2000$ for an excellent shape 24 no dash.

Whatever it is, it's a great revolver in a very good caliber. Very authoritative round.

I paid $800 for my 24-2 in blued finish last year. Would love to find another for $680, that's a steal.
