S&W 22A Recoil Buffer

Every time I clean my 22A, that little plastic recoil buffer looks more and more beaten up. When should I replace it? I don't want to throw away perfectly good gun parts on a regular basis, but I don't want to find out what happens when it's no longer functional. About a half-millimeter of material has been ripped away on either side of the thing now. Should I worry?

I bought one of the first-run 22A pistols several years ago. My buffer lasted 5,000 rounds, and even when it broke in half, I (don't laugh) taped it together and kept shooting. I finally called S&W and they sent me a little envelope with 5 or six brand new buffers. Free of charge. That was when S&W was an unfavorable overseas company. I think they stuck their necks out to keep customer loyalty. Give them a call...1-800-331-0852 8am-8pm EST m-f.

BTW, I now have at LEAST 50,000+ rounds through the 22A. Still shoots fairly well for an el-cheapo gun...kinda wish I sprung for the Stainless model instead. The frame is so peened from the slide action. Down to my last buffer.
