S&W 22a 5 1/2"

I bought a S&W 22a last year for a close range small game gun, but have only had an opportunity to fire it a decent ranges a couple of times. I went to the range with a friend today and the accuracy of this pistol is great! I was shooting out to about 75 yards and could not believe what I was hitting. At 25 yds I was getting great groups.
Now the bad part, has anyone experienced a f2f with these? I had quite a few today, and it seemed to do it with the whole mix of ammo I had. Are these pistols especially fouling sensitive?

Yes, I noticed that this gun would fail to go into battery or, more often, fail to fire almost at once. Takes little fouling indeed. Copper-plated high-velocity ammo helps a little.

Been running one for a while now. Had to do some trigger work but I now have a crisp 2lb trigger, with litle creep. Make sure you load the magazine correctly! I am sure that you know this, but the magazine will index the rounds wrong if you put the rim of the round immediately in the front of the magazine, instead of back farther in the rim slot towards the back of the magazine. It will feed one or two rounds, and then with the rest of the rounds it will angle sharply and jam, period. Really hoarked me off one day, over 100 rounds just fine, and then poof, jam city. Make sure to check it. I shot over 200 rounds of the cheap federal box stuff for 9.97 from Walmart the other day, no problem. Good shooting. DC

The good new is the 22a/22s does get better after the first few 1000 rounds. The downside is that they seem to have a bit of premature wear on the slide where the slide stop engages, and the nylon(?) buffer is, for lack of a better term, disposable. They are unbelievably accurate though. I found with my 22s that it needed at least 500 rounds of plated ammo to smooth things out. I bought 2 extra barrels,(7 3/4" and 5 1/2" Bull target) and each barrel requires the same 500 round treatment. Once they are smoothed out, drop the plated in favor of regular lead. Mine is happiest with Winchester X-pert, but YMMV.
