S&W 22-4 shooting low

Guys, anybody know of a replacement shorter front sight blade for a 22-4? Does S&W offer any such thing?

Revolver shoots quite low.

I'm not sure if it's a factory option, but an experience gunsmith could help you out. I think it would be easier to try some different ammo out. Trying a heavier grain weight bullet or some slightly hotter hollow points will definitely change the point of impact. If you plan to use the gun for home defense or anything like that, you'll want it hitting to point of aim with whatever you're going to be carrying in the gun for that purpose.

If the gun isn't collector grade and you're deadset on using whatever ammo you've already tried, you could also just file the sight down. You may also want to check to make sure you're not flinching. Have an experienced revolver shooter try the gun out and see if it shoots low for them.

Both suggestions may cure the problem.
Shooting low can easily be caused by the shooter.
And trimming down a sight is easier than having to go the other way.

Not to be a smart a** but when I have a gun that shoots low, I just make note of it in my records and just use a higher aimpoint. lol gunslinger

Just had a thought.
Yeah, I know.
Maybe he's using a different sight picture than the gun is set up for.
He could be using a six o' clock hold when the gun is set for a higher sight picture hold.
Anyone have training pictures showing the hold differences?

Try a heavier bullet if not already using 230gr. If it shoots low with the 230 you'll probably have to file it down. Holding higher isn't an option if the sight hides the target. The real problem is when a gun shoots high.

Lots of suggestions. I typically like a 6 oclock hold. at 18 yards, using a "split the bullseye in half" hold, with the front sight level with the "ears" of the rear sight, I am shooting almost 8 inches low.

I'll see if I can raise Smith and Wesson on the horn. Perhaps they have a solution.

A buddy has the same revolver, and put a big old luminescent tritium ball type front sight on his, and with it one simply obscures the target altogether, basically cover up the bullseye, and voila! Right in there. Perhaps I would do well to make this modification.

ETA: Just called the S&W toll free line. After a fairly lengthy wait, I spoke with a CS representative, and they just put a replacement sight in the mail to me. I offered to pay for it, the gentleman said it was free of charge. I asked if he wanted the old sight back, he said, no, I was to keep it.

Who says customer service is a dead art?

22-4 Shooting Low

I have a 22-4 and it also shoots low-it was an early manufacture and the front sight is too high-I just compensate by purposely misaligning the front sight.
Also-check and tighten the screws on the right side as needed-I had one pop out and get lost at an outdoor range.
S&W CS sent me a replacement 3 days after I called them-nice folks.
