S&W 22 10 shot revolver

Any one got any comments on one of these, other than the Smut&Weezle comments? I didn't buy it new and I was wondering what they sold for retail. The one I bought has a 6" barrel and factory rubber grips. I needed a revolver to shoot CB loads with. It has a fine trigger pull on it but I didn't get to bring it home due to the background check taking longer than normal on a friday evening. I should be able to pick it up in the morning and get some plinking in. I wouldn't buy a new S&W, but there are still alot of good used ones available.

Some of the ten-shooters were made with alumimum cylinders.
For what reason I have no idea.

Anyway, since Al is softer than steel, over time the stop notches will get worn by the steel stop.
If the gun was bought new and under lifetime warranty, this isn't a problem.
But, if bought used, you will end up with a worthless & inaccurate gun in about 2-3000 rounds of DA shooting.
The fix would cost you about $200 or so.

Caveat emptor!

I specifically waited unitl they offered the 10 shot with a stainless cylinder and found one a guy had bought new in Jan but hadn't shot yet. I have been having the best time with it. I shoot alot of the cheaper stuff throught it and it has performed well with it. I have proably put a thousand rounds through it and now it is time to do an action job. I also plan on clamping in in my Ransom rest to try out some different ammo and really see how it performs.

I do know that the S/S 10 shot cylinders are available as parts from Brownell's and if I had the alloy version I would switch it over for the S/S.

Thanks for the info. K-frame, you were right. It did have the aluminum cylinder. I got it home and shot it a few times this morning and was pleased with everything but that ALUMINUM cylinder. The shop I got it from had the stainless model 17 in the same barrel length and I talked him into letting me trade up for the Stainless one. $50.00 more but at least I don't have to worry about that Aluminum wearing out. I couldn't beleive it was AL.! The stop notches were made of steel and were designed into the ejector ring. I shot some CB's in it and some Hyper vel. rounds . I don't have to worry about that ruger MkII jamming on me any more!------NJW, would you mind telling me what they sell for , I haven't seen a price on a new one yet. I traded an old single shot H&R rifle and a aniversary edition MKII Ruger and $50.00 for mine. They were asking $453.00 for it but I felt that was a little steep. I guess I got it for around $350.00--$375.00.

I paid $410.00 for mine 2 years ago, and got $325.00 for it 6 months later on a trade in. The last one I saw on the shelf locally had an asking price of $495.00, but could be bickered down to $450.00 or so.

njw, cplane, are these the 4" or 6" bbl versions? Too bad they don't offer a .22 mag cylinder for it.

Bullseye, Mine is the mod.617 6" barrel. I shot it about 200 rds. this morning. Super accurate. I really like it. I can shoot shorts longs or L.R. and cb's.

I don't know why we are getting multiple posts, but better too many than not enough!

bullseye,

Mine is also the 6" version. Looks just like a 686 except for the small holes. As I said, I really like mine and shoot it everytime I got out shooting (twice a week). I shot it on thursday and I am getting ready to head out to the range now to shoot again :0).
