A guy I know just inherited this old revolver. I think its a 1905. The grips are ivory (?) with S&W medallions. Ser. # is 150xxx. Any info??

That thumb latch doesn't look right. What is the caliber and what other markings are on the gun?

An S&W M&P in .38 Special with number 150xxx would date to about 1910-1911.

It is a .38 Military & Police Model of 1905 "3rd Change" and the latch looks okay to me. A picture of one is seen on page 137 of the Standard Catalog.

94,803 were manufactured from 1909 to 1915 in serial # range 146900 to 241703.

The grips do not appear to be original to the gun, though do appear to be quite old and beautiful.

Those might be original factory ivory grips, but there is no way to tell without an S&W letter, which will say how the gun was shipped.
