S&W 19 barrel problem

I traded for a S&W 19 the other day. When I got home I noticed a "bubble" about an inch from the end of the barrel. I am apprehencive about shooting it. I am thinking about cutting the barrel and drill and tap the front sight on. Any help would be appreciated. In the mean time I am looking for a used barrel that I can afford.

It should be okay to shoot as there is no barrel restiction. Take it out and see how it performs. .....

That certainly is a fix but could get expensive. I have never encountered a pistol with barrel ring but have had more that my share of rifles .....

A few years back, I walked up on a guy, at a gun show, that had and older Remington target rifle. The price was right and short cut my inspection and bought it. I did not buy "in heat" but instead, in a hurry. Got it home to do my usual cleaning and there it was, about 6" from the muzzle. Since then, I've shot it many times and it is a tack driver. I'm happy but could be happier. .

It's like having the most beautiful and sexiest lady, in town that has a small wart on her nose. You will be happy but that wart is still there. .....

I think in a future post, we all should discuss, performing an inspection for rings and other potential problems.. .....

It can certainly be done.
I have had several revolvers cut off to make IDPA length limits. A couple of them twice as they reduced the maximum from 5 inches to 4.

Can you do the work yourself or will you send it out and add gunsmithing fees to what you thought was a good deal?

The one I had done in another shop looked factory and cost less but the gunsmith is since deceased.

The ones done by my local guy were less expensive but they don't look factory.
