S&w 19 4"?

I stumbled upon a nice mdl 19 today at the gunshop and I need some advice. It appears to be an older model; the sights are plain black, not the red ramp white outline on my uncle's 66. It has the original wood grips. there is minimal wear to the bluing, and from what i can tell, it is from holster wear. there was hardly any play in the cylinder when it is locked. overall it looks to be in good shape. The guy wants $319 for it. Is this a good price? This is the kind of revolver I have been looking to buy for a while now. What do they usually go for?
Please help!

Considering the condition, $300 would be an average price. Take cash, and offer $250. You might be suprised.

Good Luck...

Without actually seeing the revolver, it is hard to be exact on condition and pricing. I paid $ 350.00 for a 19-3 in 98% overall condition not long ago and feel I did alright.
Pricing varies greatly by region and depends on local demand for older blued Smiths and from whom you buy. I agree with the "take cash" philosophy one of the other members suggested. $ 319.00 would be a great price here in SC if it is a 95% or better gun. With sincere, polite interest and cash you might be able to get it for around $ 300.00 out the door.IMHO ;)

Depending on actual age and condition tht could be a good price. You should find out what the condition is rated as and also the dash (-) number or serial number to establish an age. Then it could narrow the field of prices. The location (state) would be a big help also.

I went back to look again today.....I'm pretty sure that thing has my name on it. I'm not very good at judging condition, but I'd say 80-90%. the grips look a bit older, but overall looks pretty good. It does not come with the original box or accesories though. I'll probly go back later this week or next and make an offer. thanks for all the advice!

BTW that is a fine lookin revo, squirrel Man!

Based on estimated condition, go with Joe's advice. Bring $ 300.00 in cash and offer $ 250.00 "right now" and see where it goes from there. You have a $50.00 bargaining margin to play with. If you really want it, go up to the $ 300.00 for it. If they don't take the $ 300.00, it'll depend on how badly you want it to go to full selling price .....another $20.00. If they will only accept full price, ask them to throw in a box of .38 Specials to christen the gun for the full price. My .02. ;)

I just bought a 4" model 13 (same gun but with fixed sights). I would rate the blueing at a solid 80%. Mechanically tight. I paid $228 out the door here in Utah. For what it's worth.

RT82,
I have a S&W M-19-3 I bought used in the early seventies. It has the same plain front sight like you describe and is pinned and recessed.
Mine is in four inch with target hammer and trigger and a great shooter. They go for around $250 or even less in this part of Michigan but we have lower prices than elsewhere for old Smiths than the rest of the country I've learned.
They're a fine old gun that I've put many thousands of rounds through over the years. I'd recommend one highly.

Thanks for the replies everybody I appreciate it. I did not get to buy the revolver unfortunatley. :( I hit a deer with my car so there went my handgun money. I'll just keep saving up and hopefully will get a chance to buy it later.
Thanks Again!
