S&W 14-3

My buddy inherited a blued 14-3 from his father. This is my only experience thus far with a revolver. Wow! What a fantastic gun to shoot.
One bi problem that should be an easy fix. When the cylinder is open the cylinder mount slides off toward the muzzle. I am sure that there should be a clip or some type of retainer. Can someone tell me what that retainer would be called? If you have a S&W parts source that would also be great.
Are these guns capable of handling +P rounds?

That piece is called a crane or a yoke, depending on who is involved in the conversation ;) and it is retained by a small screw on the right side of the revolver -- it is the most forward of all the screws on the right side of the revolver.

As to the other question - your gun is a K-frame Smith and Wesson all-steel revolver, so yes, it can handle +P ammo.

I tried to get my buddy to part with it a few times but he is not budging. At least I get to shoot it when we go to the range. So far I have found it to be very accurate and a pleasure to shoot. Very limited recoil, it puts a hole wherever I point it.
