Can someone who has had experience with the S&W 1076 reply with the pros and cons about this weapon. I want to add one to my collection. I have heard that it will take hi caps, but cannot find any sellers of hi caps for the 1076. I just need to know if it is a good weapon.

Beretta, just type 1076 in the search key and you will find some previous threads that reference it.

I just bought a 1006 and am also looking for hi-caps. If you find some, please let me know.

The 11rd and 15rd extended magazines were developed for the FBI's 1076. Reportedly, two 11rd and one 15rd magazines were shipped along with four of the standard 9rd mags for each of the Bureau's 1076. However, I'm not certain whether the extended magazines were ever actually issued to agents in the field. I am also not aware if S&W ever offered these mags to the handful of other LE agencies which issued the 1076 (or other 1006-series pistols). FWIW: When this was first reported, S&W did not intend to offer the extended mags to the general public.

Had a 1076, was very well made, liked it but could not hit anything with it. Traded for a Beretta 92fs. The guy I traded it to loved it and could shoot it very well. IIRC it only held 10 or 11 rounds in the mag.

The biggest downside I have seen in mine is the decocker. It needs a gentle slide down, not a mashing or everything gets out of synch.
Gotta be the most accurate, easy shooting Smith auto I have owned.

I had one - w/ night sights and 2 - 9 round mags. Shot well, but the grip just didn't fit right. Then when I got bit by the 45acp thing, that 1076 became a casualty of my "gotta haves."

I have my 1076 since 93 or 94 and it is a great pistol. A bit on the bulky side but that is not a bad thing unless you are jogging in a pair of onion skin thin pair of shorts and a tank top! :D

The capacity is 9+1 with the standard mags. There has long been rumored higher cap mags (as have been mentioned) but I have never seen on of those puppies. With a total of 10 rounds in the pistol, if 10 of 10mm doesn't solve your problems you are having a TERRIBLE DAY! And the extra shots might not help you at all.

The DA pull of my 1076 is a great trigger. Fairly light, in the 7-8lb range. Now the SA is a sorta crappy, but not so much that it renders the pistol in accurate in any means.

If you are looking for a high cap 10mm, get a G20, an STI/SVI 1911 or get a ParaOrdnance P16--either get the chamber reamed to 10mm or get a 10mm barrel as I did. BarSto and Ed Brown have the barrels available.

Std. capacity is 9 rounds plus one up the pipe. The FBI also ordered extended magazines for reloads in nasty situations. I'm not aware of whether the extended mags were ever manufactured or delivered.

S&W 1076

I once owned a 1076, and wish I had it back. Silly me traded it for a S&W Sigma in 40S&W. At least I came alway with 3 15rds magazines in the gun swap. I was fairly new to shooting when I bought it and after 1911 SA pulls, I had trouble with keeping the sights lined up with the DA pull. I was also handloading and had a tendancy to go for full power loads. Made the gun kick quite a bit. Now I am back in the market for another 10mm. Have been looking at the Witness FS in 10mm. Also have seen a couple 1006 and 1066 out there. Good luck. If you are comfortable with DA, you'll love the 1076.
