S&B ammo please read

damage

Ok so i get some s&b ammo and i go out to the range and test it out i switched over from american (please no american bashing)

so I went home to clean my gun (shot about 300 rounds through it.) now keep in mind that the gun is stainless but when i opened her up she looked like she was blued gun.

Is s&b normally this dirty or could this be because the gun is stainless??

also i noticed alot of smoke when i was firing it off isn't this a sign of dirty ammo

thanks for the feedback

damage, I've shot about 6000 rounds of S&B through my USPc 9mm (stainless). I do not feel it is any measurable or visibly dirtier than any of the American made ammo I have shot.

The smoke is also a bare minumum in my experience with S&B. Is this a brand new gun? Was there cleaning or lubricating fluids in the gun possibly?

Keep in mind that a stainlees will certainly look like it gets dirtier than a blued gun but then again, you don't really see all the dirt on a blue gun, do you?..

S&B has always been good stuff for me.

I've been shooting S&B for several years, and its my preferred "cheap" ammo -- for the range, etc.

I think its a little hotter than most 115 gr. fmj ammo and a little dirtier. I don't mind the dirtier. And I've had virtually no failures and it seems very accurate.

I also like the similarly priced Magtech, Denel, PMP, and recently American Ammunition. There's not enough differences in price or performance, in my experience, to matter. I buy whichever is cheapest.

But, yes, I think S&B is dirtier than some other ammos. Especially on the bolt face. But its no big deal.

I've used several thousand rounds of 9mm and .223 S&B with no problems. It may be a little dirtier, but it all comes out in the end (no pun intended). :)

been shooting s&b .243...and now finding out it isn't reloading well for me...something funny about the primer pocket....

S&B is a dirty ammo, one of the dirtier ones in my opinion. I like Fiocchi because cleanup is a lot less hassle with it compared to S&B. In shooting comparable amounts from each brand, side by side, each one in a separate gun, I found S&B to be dirtier. That being said, S&B is a fine ammo for shooting, no qualms there.

As far as your stainless gun, ammo residue always looks worse on a stainless than a blued gun. Dirt just shows up so well there! After shooting 200-300 rounds, you are probably going to have to work equally hard to get things clean, regardless of the ammo.

Yup, S&B is dirtier than any (IIRC) other ammo I've tried in 9mm. But over here in Helsinki, it is also the cheapest available. Personally, I choose to shoot PMC instead. Hey, it's not that much more expensive, plus I'm lazy... ;)

Why be normal?

Damage,

I think S&B ammo may be a bit dirtier than PMC or Winchester but I'll buy it every time. The price is usually better and reliability and accuracy are first rate. I've used S&B in 9mm and .45 auto and it's the first brand I look for when I'm ammo shopping.

S&B is definitely good stuff in my book. One caveat: The red sealing laquer on the primers does tend to creep back into the firing pin channel. I noticed it when detailing my Kahr. It, or the ammo, has never failed to feed, fire and function.

Have you tried MagTech? I am currently liking it pretty good. After putting 50-100 rounds through them, my guns almost look like they weren't fired. I have had zero failures to fire or jams of any kind out of four different pistols (two nines, two forty's). All I have used so far is their FMJ. I have about four boxes of their JHP that I am going to try out. I have to be honest and admit I haven't tried S&B yet. I like the MagTech well enough that I don't feel like fooling with too much else right now, although I have had the same results with some Winchester ammo. I was carrying PMC Eldorado Starfires in my 9's, and just shot up some of that the other day because it has been carried for a while. None of it malfunctioned either. The only thing I have found to be really dirty is UMC, and none of it malfunctioned - it just made cleaning harder.

I am not a scientific tester. That's just my recent personal experience and current opinion.

Be safe. Enjoy our sport.
