S&B ammo input please..

I wanted to get your guys opinion on S&B ammo. I have used it in an AR-15 with no problems to date. Considering using some in my Glock and Walther P99. It will be used mostly for plinking and paper punching, not as a defensive round. I am not looking to buy cheap ammo just to save a buck and risk ruining my guns. The S&B seems to be of high quality and I wanted to see what others think. Any input would be appreciated!

Oh and www.cheaperthandirt.com has THE best (I checked around) prices on casses of S&B right now.... $145.50 for .223, $122.40 for 9mm, $150.40 for 40 cal... etc.. all prices are per 1000 rounds.

I just finished of a case os S&B 180gr. .40 Liberty. I liked it OK, but I must have had a bad lot because there were ALOT of bad/hard primers. I shot most of it through an HK USP Compact and a Sig 2340. Both guns like it really well - no misfeeds, fairly good accuracy. The primer malfunctions were really annoying though, especially during an IDPA match.

Pardon my ignorance, but what defines bad/hard primers? Did the ruounds not fire? I am about 2/3 of the way through a case of 115gr 223 ammo and have not had any failure so far.

I've shot tons of S&B ammo in .223, 9mm, and .45ACP. I've had no problems with it, it seems to feed and function fine in all the guns I've shot it in. I don't remember any FTF with it, except a couple of questionable magazines in my AR.

I too had problems with hard primers. I used them in my Ruger P-89. This gun works flawlessly with any round except S&B. I shot 3 boxes and had 4 failure to fires because of hard primers. I buy different ammo now.

Hello. I've had a very few hard primers in .45acp S&B, none in .40, and none in 9mm, but I cannot get the 9mm to group to suit me so I don't buy it in that caliber anymore. Primer pockets are tight on S&B in case you reload. I still reload it and it works fine. For the money, S&B is good range or blasting ammo and groups well enough in .40 and .45acp. For the money, you wind up with cases cheaply for reloading. I don't trust S&B for anything more serious than the above. Best.

I had four squibs in two boxes of .45 bought at the same trip to the store. Hoping it was just a bad batch as Wilson recommends it as the best feeding .45 230 gr FMJ available.

Have fired about 3000 rounds thru various 40's and a 45. No problems to report. It's packaged more efficiently (smaller boxes), and it has low muzzle flash.

Been thru many, amny boxes of 9mm, .45, & .380. It has all lit off, seems pretty accurate, and the price is right. Doesn't seem to be particularly dirty, and I like the small boxes, easy to carry a bunch to the range. Take care, m2

My only comment would be that it seems to leave an unusually large amount of unburned powder behind that pretty well gunks up the breech area of the slide, barrel and receiver. I've only shot the .40 Auto ammo. I've heard, but never seen, the same complaint about the 9x19 (except it leaves red residue, rather than the puke green that the .40 auto leaves behind <g> ).

I love it in 9mm and .45, with no complaints. It was THEE hands-down winner for the hottest load in the .32. I've yet to try any in .40 SMITH & WESSON(like it or not :)).

Bought a case in 9, and had many hard primers. Switched to American Eagle from Ammoman.com. $144/case, no shipping, no FTFs.

Wedge,

I have used thousands of S&B rounds -- principally 230 grain FMJ .45 ACP -- without a single problem. By the way, this has been discussed frequently on TFL, so there's considerable history available if you want to research it.

I strongly endore www.ammoman.com as an excellent, low cost source for S&B loads.

I tried S&B .32 ACP in my KelTec P-32 and loved it. Soooo... I just bought a bunch of their 9 x 18 Makarov and it's just as good.

Great stuff...

regards to all,

Owen

I shot a box of .380 and had five that would not fire (hard primers). I did not have trouble with .45 ammo, but as mentioned above, the stuff is nasty in regard to what it leaves in the breech and barrel.

Ruger factory helpline people advise against using it but they don't get specific. I have used it with no problems in a .45ACP P97. I shot it through a Kahr K9 and the gun had to be sent back to the factory.

IT COULD HAVE BEEN THE GUN TO BEGIN WITH IT WAS NIB. Many have had good luck with it. I do not shoot it through Rugers. To do so would be like arguing with a sign post.

S&B 45 seems okay.

Their 357 magnum is HOT. I can shoot 357 magnum through a snubbie okay. But THEIR 357 magnum - 5 shots and I had to have the gun surgically removed from my hand.

Battler.

I have bought a bunch of this stuff from Cheaper Than Dirt. Narry a problem one. I will tell you the case price is cheaper if you phone order than from their internet site. I got the 45 ACP for $174 per a few weeks ago. Miss Sissy takin the orders is a real sweetheart. Tell her Bubba down in Austin sent you.
