S. AFRICAN Pistol By Republic ArmsCo.- Anyone Shot These

I've seen adds lately for a Sig-looking pistol made by Republic Arms of South Africa.
They are all-steel and weigh about 32oz., are compact in design w/ 3 1/2" barrels, single stack 8+1 mags,w/decocker and safety.
They come in 9mm and 40 and I just happened to see one in a shop yesterday. They appear fairly well-made, maybe CZ quality or so, and have well set-up controls.

Has anyone shot one of these? If so, do they function reliably, are they accurate, does the weight help control muzzle flip w/ the 40? Would you feel comfortable w/ one for daily safety?

They can be had in the $220 to $260 range and they seem like nice pieces for that cheap a price. Experiences please!

Thanks,
Dave

Have you seen the Canadian copy? I think it's Dlask or something like that. It's a P228 clone. It may be a litter pricier than thos S.African guns, but it's CNC made.

I've heard stories...

The South African gun looks like a SIG but may, in fact, be a CZ-75 clone made to like a SIG. (That's not a bad thing, by the way: the CZ-75 is a fine weapon.) This gun, which is supposedly the CZ-99 under license from the Yugoslavian firm that designed it), is considered a pretty good gun, but its not a SIG, and lacks some of that gun's refinements.

The Canadian gun is apparently an exact duplicate of the SIG. A number of folks wonder how long they'll be able to make them before they're hit by lawsuits from SIG.

Not as nice as a SIG, but nicely done, nevertheless. And not as PRICEY as a SIG, either.

I'd save a little longer and get a new (or save a little less long and buy a used) SIG.
