S.a. Xd-40

These are decent guns. They are sometimes compared to the Glock but in reality they are nothing alike.

The XD is the old HS-2000 that was inported a few years ago. Spingfield now imports them and puts their name on them.

They are made in Coraitia.

They are a single action design with a grip safety that blocks the sear.

They have a decent trigger and most are very reliable and accurate.

Actually, you're slightly wrong, jeff. The best thing is that they use slightly modified S&W 5900 series highcaps - which can be had for about $13 - even less than the new 10rd magazines designed for the gun.:D

Jeff is RIGHT TOO!!

You can modify either the Beratta or S&W mags. I have dine severak of each for my wife's HS.

Sorry, I wasn't saying jeff was wrong. Taurus, beretta, and s&W 5900 series mags will work. S&W are probably the better bet, because they can be found cheaper, and they will fit flush against the base of the gun. Beretta / taurus mags will extend slightly below the base.

I have an XD 40, I sold a Beretta 96 when I bought it. The XD is a great shooting little gun. I like the features, feel, and function of it. I also like the fact that other mags will fit it.

XD-40

I bought a Springfield XD-40 a couple of months ago after reading the article American Rifleman had and because a local gunshop took my S&W Sigma in trade toward the XD.

I really like the feel of the pistol and it has a great trigger, of course almost every gun has a great trigger compared to the Sigma. The pistol has so much going for it that I think alot of people are going to start buying them as the word gets out. I really like the grip safety and the ambi-mag release.

Check the pistol out at your local gunshop and you will see how nice they are.

One of my range buddies recently got an XD in 9mm flavour, so I've had plenty of chances to shoot it.

I'm not a Glock fan (just not my thing, nothing bad), but the XD is a really nice gun all around, good trigger once one gets used to it.

Good quality and workmanship make this a great value IMO.

Nothing bad to say about it at all.

XD-9MM

My buddy bought one at the gun show a couple of months ago. We went to the range the next day and shot for about 2hrs. I liked everything about it except the grip safety. I am not really big on those, it is just something about it. Maybe it just takes getting used to. The accuracy seemed really good and the trigger was pretty nice too. I actually was more accurate with his gun than I was with my new G19 (until I got the Glock trigger pull figured out). I liked it well enough that I am thinking about getting it in a 40...only time will tell.

Thanks to all for the input. How's the accuracy and reliability compared to a Glock 23. I own the Glock and know how well it runs. Yes, I have visited the local shop and find the grip design fits my hand much more gooder than the Glock. Thanks again!

I shot my XD quite a bit before I traded it to my brother. The only thing that I didn't like about it is the fact that I tend to ride the slide release with my thumbs so sometimes the slide wouldn't lock back on the last round. If you are an IDPA/IPSC 1911 shooter you might have the same problem.

The grip angle fits me much better than the Glock, but I prefer the Glock in other regards. I carry a Glock with a grip reduction. It points like an XD or 1911 but shoots like a Glock.

It's a good pistol. Ron is right about the slide release. enfwago is a little optimistic about the accuracy. Mine is nothing to brag about in the accuracy department, but it's sufficient. I've got over 1500 rounds through mine, without a single malfunction. 800 without cleaning. I've used the factory mags exclusively. I can't compare the accuracy with the Glock as I don't have one, but 3.5-4" groups at 25 yds are the norm for me.

Edit: I call it mine...but my wife recently laid claim to it, so I guess it's really hers.;)
