I have a pardner pump action 12 GA. (knock off 870) And since I use it on saltwater shores the normal blueing has rusted...Bad. i took mot of the blueing and rust off and would like to have it re-coated. I hear electroless plating is good for a rust prevenative finish??? Corrosion-x wont do it on this job boys. The salty water on the gun and in the air just eats it up when im hunting and no matter how many hours I spend cleaning and coating it's just not enough. what kind of coating would you recomend? Who should I send the barrel out to?
Thanks!
Dave

Electroless nickle is extremely rust resistant and is what Remington uses on their excellent Marine Magnum, hard chrome is very rust resistant and a harder, more durable finish.

Either is considered to be a true life time finish. Some platers can also plate the inside of the bore for total protection.
These plated finishes are the most durable of the available gun finishes.

Here's the top platers. All have excellent reputations for top quality work.
Each offers different prices, and options on the look of the finish:

Black-t

Google "black T finish"
Find Walter Birdsong in Florence,MS ...Monteray Road I think.
His finish is primo against salt water. I think it was tested for 30,000 hours in saltwater spray. It also comes in green. He does work for FBI and BTF among others.
his number is at www.snipercentral.com

I've just used some sort of paste wax (like Johnsons floor wax) on any blued guns I need to protect from rust/ambient moisture. I suppose car wax would be just as good.

Many years ago, I kept a Ruger 10-22 in the bathroom...after a while condensation (mostly during the Winter months) spot-rusted the bluing all over the gun. I sanded-off all the bluing and put several coats of paste-wax on it...no problems after that, and it looked like a stainless-steel version, too.

Have done this recently with my "car gun" (a blued Mossberg 500 shorty I keep out there) with the same results.
