Rust on new Bushmaster

Just got a 16 inch V match.Gun is brand new.When looking closely at the weapon I noticed some rusting around the front sight base.The rust present where the sight wraps around the barrel.Is this common on a Bushmaster?Has anyone ever seen this?

Goat, that red may be lubricant that is used on the sight base and barrel as they tap the mounting pins in.

Are you SURE it is rust?

If you're not positive, get some good solvent and see if it wipes off and dries clean and "rust free looking". If you determine it is rust, send it back to Bushy and they'll fix it in a snap with no questions asked.

FYI, I have seen this red lubricant on one of my Bushy's but have never heard of rust in that area of a rifle.

it might also be blow back from where the gas tube meets the sight base.

I don't know about the v-match, but some highpower rifle builders will red-loctite the front sight assembly on the barrel instead of the old pin type. Less stress on the barrel and that sucker is pretty much there for good.
