Rust in chamber

I just bought a Marlin 18 .22 short, circa 1903. The rifle is for my son and I'm in the process of refinishing it for him.

Her's my problem. There is a small amount of rust in the chamber which is causes fired case to stick in the chamber.

I've tried several things to remove the rust, including soaking it in break free over night then scrubbing with a brass brush on an electric drill.

I've gotten some of it out but there's just enough to cause the spent brass to still stick.

Anyway, does anyone have an idea? I'm open to suggestions and I don't care about the bluing as I plan to reblue it anyway.

Wrap some 0000 steel wool around an old cleaning brush. Squirt it with WD 40, and use the drill SLOWLY (slow speed.)

Any pitting in the chamber? If so, buy him a new rifle. In all likelihood, by the time the rust is gone, the chamber will be oval or just over size.

You can always have the barel bored out and then sleeved, but that is likely to cost about as much as a new rifle unless you can do the work yourself.
