About what would be the value of a Russian sks made at the Tula
arsenal and has a laminated type stock, looks to be about 98%
condition and appears to have been refurbished at the arsenal.
Date is in the early 1950's. Has no bayonet and has military
type od green sling and 20 inch barrel.

Thanks

Sounds similar to the one that I've got. 1954 Tula, factory refurb, good shape.

Kinda stinks the bayonet is gone, as the Ruskies made distinctive imprints (with punches) on them that would match the others on the rest of the gun and add to the originality and overall value. Either way, I feel safe in saying that the Russians built the best SKS 45s in the world, and if you can get your hands on one, take it. I went to a local show recently, and real Tula SKS 45s in far worse shape than mine were going for $500-600 all day.

Quality soft point 7.62x39 rounds penetrate about the same as most self defense JHPs or 00 buck so the overpenetration issue is the same as most other rounds. Hopefully, your friend will hit the BG and it won't be an issue. SKSs are good home defense weapons, especially if used in a 'safe room' where moving through the house wouldn't be required. In that instance, a handgun or SBR would be optimal IMO.

sks---

Thanks for the information. It also has a 30 round magazine.
Don't know what happened to the original magazine.

IIRC re SKS with blade-bayonets

There was a legal thing that forbade importing real, sharpen-capable bayonets, so all the ones I've seen were look-alike, soft-iron pieces. Also, I've never seen any bayonet with any sort of serial number penned onto it. Gas-tube, maybe.

Detachable magazine, or fixed box magazine? It makes a difference. Depending on what you have, you have to choose to cater to Mall Ninjas or Pseudo-Collectors (being a re-arsenal rifled, it's not a real collectors' piece).

Retail probably 375.00-425.00. Some buyers may pay more for russian but that would be about right.

That seems about right. I've got a '54 Tula that was re-arsenaled and is in excellent condition. Shame that yours isn't in it's original condition which might lower the price.

I think I paid $89 for mine. I'd be tempted to let it go for $600.....
