Do any of you have an IZH singe or double barrel? Are you pleased with it. I am looking to pick up an inexpensive 12 gauge to serve as my wife's home defense longarm.

Where can I pick one up?

I had a SxS but I've already ditched it----it was OK-but nothing special.

Why not get a Mossberg pump for HD?? The same cost or less with 6 or 8 shells on tap---instead of 1 or 2.

No fumbling with breaking the action open for reloading either.

American Made too---Not that buying foreign will stop me from buying a quality piece.

The Izh series are okay shotguns--kind of rough finish, but definitely functional. I have fired only the over/under version (IZH-27M) and it was find. However, I'd recommend you take a look at the Norinco Rem-870 knockoffs that are showing up at the gunshows these days for about $180. They're cheaper and with more rounds offer a better home defense option it seems to me.

Thanks, everyone. I think my wife would be more comfortable with a very user friendly version, hence my shying away from pumps (I have an 870)

Steel,i have the IZH-18 single barrel 12 gauge. Its a fantastic-overbuilt break action shotgun!I love the fact that it has a built in de-cocker so i don't have to leave a snap cap in the barrel all the time as with my other shotguns.I also have a New England Firearms (Wal-Mart special) 12 gauge and its also very nice-although not as much of a tank.Either one would serve you well for probably the rest of your life, although if i got one for the wife,i might get a 20 gauge as both of these guns kick quite hard.;)

IZH

I have the Baikal IZH 27 O/U with 28" barrel and screw in chokes for $349 on sale from $399. I am very happy with it. The SxS was $50 less and was reviewed in the AMERICAN RIFLEMAN Aug.2001 issue.

You can get the Saiga .410 (AK action)for $179 +FFL etc. from CDNN--That would be an interesting home defense shotgun for a woman. Some have posted that they cycle faster than the Benelli.
