Russian Nagant 7.62

Anyone own one? Anyone fire one? Is it junk?

I see the caliber is listed as 7.62 but is that the same as 7.62x25 like the Tokorev round or is there a specific round for the revolver?
(kinda like .357mag/revolver and .357sig/autos)..

The Nagant Revolver fires the 7.62x38R. It is a rather unusual looking round as the case goes all the way around the bullet in order to facilitate the gas seal feature. It pushes a 108grn bullet at about 890fps, so it's not a death ray by any means. Ammo is quite pricey by a .32acp cylinder can be obtained for about $50. I wouldn't call them junk as they are quite well made. The double action trigger is very rough though typically running in the 17-18lb area. It's not what I'd use for a serious carry gun but it is an interesting historical curiosity.

I just now came inside after firing a box of 50 Sellier & Bellot .32 S&W Longs in my M1895 Nagant (made in 1915).
The cases bulge some since they are smaller than the .30 Nagant case, but work well.

Ammo issues?

That was something that I hadn't considered. how available IS this ammo and if it's not available, what else can I SAFELY use in the Nagant revolver.
Also, does anyone know where to get a .32 ACP cylinder for the Nagant and can I install it myself or does it need a gunsmith?

Ive read that .32acp can be fired through the standard cylinder with only an occasional misfire which can be resolved by a simple pulling of the trigger.Anyone have first hand knowledge of this?

I don't think a .32acp could be fired in the standard cylinder since the original round is rimmed and the .32 is only semi-rimmed. I'm not so sure that the miniscule rim would be wide enough. I believe that you're thinking of 32 S&W Longs and .32 H&R Magnums. Misfires are known to happen with them (in a standard Nagant cylinder) because their rims aren't as thick as those of the original round.

You can get cheaper Nagant ammo from SOG for 40 Rd Box/$14.95 ea. The stuff is really aenmic but fairly accurate. I use .32 H&R Mag in mine most of the time and I never have had any bulging.

You can get some32 H&R MAg 100gr JHP from Georgia Arms for $11.50/50 and then send the spent brass to Bullseye Shooting Supply and have them reload it in 90 GR LSW for $8.30/50.

I had the 32ACP cylinder and never could get it to index w/o a hassle. Ended up including it for free when I sold one of my Nagants.

I got one for the 'neat' factor of the sealing cartridge/cylinder.

Took it out shooting once, have not shot it again -- lots of better items to shoot.

But I keep it because it is a very interesting piece of revolver history.
