Russian M44 Question

I just purchased a Russian M44 from AIM surplus...anybody have any experience buying one from them? for the price ($69.95) you can't go wrong...i'm just wondering what to expect when I get it...i've seen some torn up ones for less...and I know the joy of restoring a firearm...but i'd rather just shoot it and not have to mess with it too much...the ad says "like new condition" and "still in the armory wrap" any comments would be appreciated,
Tony.

I believe SOG or someone else had these, but had them listed as arsonal refinished. I'm not sure if the ones AIM has were refinished or not, my guess would be yes.

If AIM says "like new," you're pretty well set. Be prepared to clean a lot of cosmoline out. Other than that, you should be good to go. (And you really only have to clean the cosmoline out of the bolt, bbl, chamber and mag - do that and fire a hundred rounds and you'll have liquid cosmo dripping out from the wood around the metal.) They're good little guns, and a great deal for the money.

I recently bought one of these rifles. Condition was very good and it shoots 2" groups at 100yds. I played with mine a little. Converted it to a scout rifle. B-Square scope mount replaces the rear sight. I added a Ramline syn stock and red dot sight. For very little money I have a neat rifle.

I got mine just last thursday. In very good condition and drowning in gunk. Still in the process of cleaning it up, but once I'm finished I think it will be the nicest one I have. Can't wait to shoot it.

The M44s are great little rifles. If you decide to refinish it, I used marine spar varnish and it matched the original finish perfectly. After you degrease the wood, use common furniture stripper to remove the existing finish. Then apply two coats of spar varnish, mixed 10:1 with paint thinner. Allow 24 hours before applying the second coat. When finished, you can lightly rub 0000 steel wool over the final coat to dull it up a bit, if desired.
