Russian Ammo?

Thinking of trying the abundance of Russian ammo out there in my Glocks (.45 cal) and Rugers (9mm). I have heard it's fairly dirty and the primers are too hard for the Glocks Wondering what experience or problems folks have had.

Any difference between Brown Bear and Wolf?

I have not tried Brown Bear, but Wolf 9mm FTE's in two of my pistols. Both of them have never FTE'd with brass ammo. The fired cases would stick REALLY TIGHT in the chamber. Had to pound them out with a dowel occasionally.

I think their cases may be a tad fat. And I have heard persistent rumors that the laquer on the cases will melt when the gun is warm and stick in the chamber. And leave lacquer in the chamber. My experience suggests it does.

Also, steel-cased ammo is reputed to be hard on extractors. On my pistol that had the worst problem with sticky Wolf cases, I had to replace a cracked extractor just as I finished my 500 rounds of Wolf.

I don't use it any more.

STOP PLEASE!

Suggest spending more for ammo higher up the food chain.

Why do people buy expensive guns (IMO all guns are expensive) and then shoot the cheapest crap possible through them?

Why?

Are those people really that cheap, or uninformed, or naive, or, at some point, stupid?

I can certainly understand uninformed. I learn new things every day.
I can accept cheap (but I don't understand it). I understand thrifty.
Naive..............
Stupid?

I have always recommended starting at the BOTTOM of the price ladder and working UP in price until the desired performance is reached, but unless a gun is designed for steel-cased ammo I strongly recommend against its use.

CCI Blazer, Georgia Arms re-man, Black Hills, Pro Load, etc...............

Oh, WeShoot2, after the trips to the gunsmith, they'll learn. It's like the guys that buy a 2K pistol but carry it around in a $10 nylon holster.

Open bolt SMGS seem to do O.K. with this stuff. At least better than pistols.

WOLF Ammo

To date I have put more than 5000 rounds through a P220 and more than that through a MAK all with no problems. The Wolf will not work in a P(( as it sticks about every round but in the HS200/XD-9 there is no problem either. I find the accuracy to be very good. I do not believe that steel case ammo damages the internal parts of a pistil. The cases are as soft as brass, by design, and there is no more weasr than anything else although it is dirty, but that is why I have a cleaning kit.

The local indoor range here in town, doesn't allow Wolf or CCI Blazer there.
Wolf is notorious for failures, smells bad, damages equipment, and angers other shooters in surrounding lanes.
CCI Blazers because of the aluiminum cases and reloading inability.
Two good reasons for me not to shoot either.SAFE-SHOOTING!

Gun Digest 2002 tested several brands in a Makarov. The best Russian ammo shoots larger groups than the worst Western ammo - you have to buy Chinese ammo to do worse. Russian Military Makarovs have chromed chambers and barrels - few other civilian pistols do. And the steel cases do not match the expansion and lubricity characteristics of brass cases. I was at the indoor range this winter when a guy there had a Kahr stuck a case in his pistol that he couldn't get out. Enough proof for me....

I got blazer casings with my glock from glock when they did their shoot the gun for the government test.

I have also used some 9mm ammo I got with a glock I bought.

I love wolf for my sar1. I like wolf for the price and tend to have some around due to that for other stuff.

I do not shoot it exclusively as I want reloadable brass for my new hobby starting this fall, handloading/reloading.

Oh, no problems getting a boom with each trigger pull, well except when the gun was empty of course. And all ejected ok. If using wolf the glock gets cleaned as soon as I am done shooting. With clean brass ammo, it may go a few thousand rounds between cleanings.

I can usually fine 9mm in brass close to wolf prices or so, and am happy with that. I like blazer and have no problem running it for plinking duties in stuff.

One reason I like to run all types through my firearms is I want to know if it has a problem with anything like the one described above. I prefer knowing my stuff can take all 9mm ammo or whatever, not that it needs premium gas only.

Wolf Ammo

I have fired over 3K rounds through a glock 30 and have not had any problems at all. I find that they aren't any dirtier than S&B or Cor Bon. They do generally run on the hotter side as far as loads are concerned. But, in the 45 cal they are definetely cheap. Going to try and reload them later this year, and will use carbide resizing and crimping dies. Know a couple of people that reload these with no problems. Generally buying them for 55.00 per 500 from a couple of places listed in ShotgunNews.com.

I just have to ask

Ok, so I'm wondering what is the problem with the CCI Blazer ammo is (aside from the aluminum case). I like the food chain argument and it's not Russian or Chinese and unless you own a unsupported glock barrel (or the guy shooting next to you). And I don't see aluminum case tearing up your extractor or sticking in the barrel.

I mean my best guess for a "cheap" ammo on the food chain chart would start at CCI Blazer and go up to there.

What do you guys think of CCI blazer?

Also I just have to add I reload my own anyway so I do kind of think that reloading is the best way to go with just about any ammo.

There's nothing wrong with today's CCI Blazer. I will not shoot at a range where I cannot use it. Why pay $12.00 for a box of 9mm WW or Remington when I can buy Blazer for $3.99 per 50 an enjoy the fresh air from an outdoor range?

Wolf or Silver Bear with steel cases, dirty powder and a primer guaranteed to hang up extractor? Not on your life.

I haven't had any problems with Wolf in my Glock 30. It is a little dirtier, but I always clean my pistol after shooting it.

I like to keep Russian ammo in Russian guns. My AK-47 eats it up. I get a little more picky about steel-cased ammo in my expensive pistols.

If you want cheap, try Sellier & Bellot (from Czech Republic) at www.natchezss.com

Also try PMP ammo (So. Africa) @ Century Arms International.

Commie ammo for commie guns!!! My Makarovs love it!! In fact, I shot some Novobersk 95gr FMJ through my Arsenal Bulgarian and printed sub 1in groups with it!! My EG Makarovs prefer the 109gr Wolf. I haven't shot the new SKS yet!!!
The only ammo that my Ruger P95 choked on was Wolf!!! Up till then, it ate everything. I haven't tried it on my expensive guns. Can you imagine trying to replace an extractor on a Walther P5!!!! I think I'll pass and stick with good old S%B. ;)

So far,i love CCI blazer and have had good luck with Wolf, although i'm a little freaked out about using it in a 1911 for an extended period.

The problem with CCI Blazer is the aluminum case. The only ranges I've seem that prohibit Blazer are the ones that sell the brass that shooters leave behind. Since the cases are identical in size and both brass and aluminum are non-magnetic there's no easy way to sort them. Hand sorting is too time consuming.
