Rugged Finish for a NightGuard...?

I have a 7-round 386 NightGuard, which I really like. But I've noticed that the black finish isn't especially tough. I've put a few small dings in it without much effort.

I'm thinking about getting an additional 357 magnum, an 8-round S&W 627 in stainless steel, because I'm wanting something for camping/hunting that could stand up to some abuse. But the stainless steel is a bit heavier. For weight considerations, I'd like to get another Nightguard, if I could put a finish on it that was tough, but also looks nice.

Any suggestions?

Not sure how durable you want your finish, but PVD coating (what S&W uses on the nightguard) is not to thick.
Have you thought of duracoating or ceracoating it? Might be a bit expensive, and they would have to get the factory finish off of the gun first but that's the only thing that comes to mind.
Maybe someone else will chime in with ideas.

I have used DuraCoat on a couple of my handguns and one of my field shotguns with excellent results. It is extremely durable. If you do a revolver I would either 2 tone it and not do the cylinder or if you do make sure you get the reducer and thin it right. I used a Preval sprayer which was only $5.00 at a local paint store and I have no complaints at all.

You want your cake and eat it to.

Camping/hunting? Realistically I don't see it. AFAIC, they will get bang up no matter.

Check and see if you can have the NG hard chromed, it looks good and is wicked tough, much harder than stainless steel. Check with places like Metalife, Metaloy, Armoloy etc. I've got a custom 25-2 that was armoloyed 30 or so years ago and it still looks great.

Black Chrome?

That hard chrome might be the ticket, from a durability standpoint. Is there such a thing as a black version of hard chrome, or at least something like it? It seems I've heard of "black chrome", but I don't really know if anybody still does it or if it would be as durable as basic hard chrome.

I guess I'll have to do some internet work on that question, but if any of you guys have some experience with it, I'd be interested in your opinions.
