Ruger Vaquero Custom Work ...

Anybody know who can do custom work on a Ruger Vaquero?

I have 2 specific projects...

First is easy, just want to get another cylinder for a 38/40 -- 40 S&W convertible and get it bored out deeper for 10 mm. I dont want to use my 40 S&W cylinder for the conversion.

Second is to get a Ruger Single Six converted to 32-20. Is there a way to convert a 32 H&R mag to that caliber, or do I need to start with something else?

I found a company called Bowen Classic Arms... they seem to do that kind of work. Anybody have experience with them?

BCA has an EXCELLENT rep...no personal experience, however...ONE smith I DO have pesonal experience with, AND RECOMMEND, is Jim Stroh at Alpha Precision...EXCELLENT work, AND he kinda' SPECIALISES in SA revo's....mikey357

Bowen is well known as first class custom gunsmiths. I have no personal experience with them, but saw a Vaquero years ago that had been color case hardened (I mean the real thing, not Ruger's cheap imitation) by them. First rate job. One of these days, I'll send mine out to be color cased (the Ruger version does not seem to be very durable). The color case finish that Ruger uses seems to be coming off my gun (and I don't use abrasives when cleaning).

Your idea about conversion of the Single six can probably be done, but I think it would end up being cost prohibitive (barrel, cylinder, probably firing pin and related parts, etc.). And you probably will need to use the current Super Single Six platform, not the older one. Don't they make these things in .32 mag to begin with? That would be a better thing to start with and would cost much less. With a .32 mag, it may be something as simple as a cylinder switch-out (appropriately timed of course). You'll need to consult a gunsmith on this to see if the bore diameter is the same between the 32-20 and .32 mag (I suspect it may be).
