Ruger Vaquero .45 Long Colt Quality? New purchase!

I just bought the gun (original big Vaquero size) at my local gun store last Thursday :D ! Brand new in the box and wrapper for $400. I put $50 down on it and I have 90 days to pay up.

When I first picked up the gun I thought it was used because it has a scuff on the right side of the barrel. The owner said that's how it came to him in the box. He thought it must not have been packed correctly and was rubbing on something inside the box or the box itself. The gun would not sell because of this scuff. It was originally marked $450 but he offered it to me for $400 so I jumped on it (I've always wanted my own polished 45 colt [copy] single action! :) [and I don't like the new smaller design as much...]).

Question: If the gun truly was delivered NIB with the scuff. Do you think Ruger is liable to fix it? Would that be covered? And if so, why wouldn't the dealer have returned it to Ruger to get a good one himself?
The scuff does not bother me that much that I'd pass up on the Ruger. But hey, I'm buying a new gun and it should be in new condition.

Also, can I get a polished 45 auto wheel for it and plop it in? Or would I have to send the gun somewhere to be fitted?

Thanks in advance for your help! :p

First, I used to run a 'Cuda w/slapstick. Nice to see another MoPar owner. The scuff is a non-issue. You can polish it out yourself with Flitz or Mothers. You would need to find a 45 ACP cylinder and have it fitted. (Beep-Beep!)

My MoPar experience was a '63 pushbutton slant six convertible Dodge Dart.
:D
Wish I still had it.

66 Cornett, 73 Duster Twister, 73 Challenger, 70 (something, I forget) Charger. Love them MoPar's!!

Dealer either caused the scuff himself, or it was just easier to sell it than send it back. Bill is correct, a bit of Flitz will probably clean it up, or call Ruger. I'll bet they will fix it right up for you.

Good Luck...

Hey! Glad to see there are so many Moparites on TFL! :)

As my name implies I have a 1970 Super Track Pak 440 6 pack Roadrunner. With a 4 -speed, DANA 60 rear, bench seats, rear spoiler, dust trails, air grabber hood and Lemon Twist Yellow paint (I can post a pic here if someone tells me how).

Also own a 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger with a Slant 6 and air conditioning that still works! Another 1969 Dodge Dart GTS 383 that will soon have a 440 (race only). And a 1967 American Motors Rambler Rebel SST 343 4-speed (for sale). :D

But, I think the biggest question relative to the Ruger before the thread is locked is- Should I buy a 1963 Coronet 330 that's dead, but been sitting in a shed for several years? Was actually Grandpa's car, the subsequent owner (my uncle), passed on Sunday.

Uh...if I fixed it up nice, it'd make a great way to carry a Ruger .45 Vaquero! :D
