Ruger Super Redhawk questions

Hello, I'm pretty new here but not to firearms, a little rusty about
revolvers.
So here is my questions,
1) What is the difference between the Ruger Redhawk and the Super Redhawk?

2)How much should I expect to pay for a used Ruger Super Redhawk?
Stainless steel, 9 1/2inch barrel, scope rings (no scope), holster,
speed loader, 100rounds of ammo.

3) He's asking $500.00! To much????

I think that's a fair price. You may be able to do better.

The "Super" has a barrel "shroud" that extends forward around the barrel.

I prefer the looks of the Redhawk, but the super is stronger and heavy.

Their internal functions are different. The trigger works differently. The Super Redhawk trigger design was meant to be an improvement. IMO it is.

I've shot both in 44 mag and I own a 7.5" SRH that I got from a trade. Honestly the Red Hawk can take a lot of punishment being it a very strong revolver. The SRH can take more punishment just because of the better grip and the massive frame. If you don't know yet, the SRH and RH can take the 44+p+ loads vs. the Ruger Super Black Hawks. A friend of mine who owns the Redhawk says the SRH is not needed due to the durabililty of the old Redhawk. Knowing the types of loads he has shot through it, he's right. josh

Redhawks were made with scope attachment points also - they were just on the barrel and it was an option not on all models. As I understand it, there wasn't that much difference in weight but the frame around the cylinder was more beefy on the Super. Also, the Redhawk had only one spring that worked as the hammer spring as well as the trigger return spring. It was a different design and I guess more handgunners liked the two spring version.

Personally, I am very happy with my Redhawk. It was offered in the 5 1/2" or 7 1/2" barrel while the Super Redhawk comes in 7 1/2" and 9 1/2" barrels. I like the 5 1/2" Redhawk I have. The Super version has the same spring and internals the SPs and GPs have and I guess my hands aren't sensitive enough to feel any real difference. My GP 100 and SP 101 feel pretty much the same to me as shooting my Redhawk.

As always - YMMV

:) :D

I've always thought that Ruger will eventually get into producing a 5.5" Ruger SRH, but so far they wen't all the way to 2.5" with the .480 model but still nothing in 5" which is the best packing length around. josh

I own this exact gun but with a Ultra Dot scop on it. Could not be happier. I bought mine second hand for $450

Well, here's my data point: I bought a used, like new, 7.5" SRH .44 Mag at a gun store for $400. No rings or extras.

seems like a fair price. i got my 'not even broke-in' SRH in .44mag with with matching stainless rings and a cheap a## tasco scope (that little 2x blew up after about 50 rounds of good magnums) for $425 from gander mountain. the one next to it (both had 9-1/2 bbl) had no scope, rings, was the same price, and had a little play in the cylinder.

slightly off topic

I have a super black hawk, 7.5" .44mag stainless. Whats the difference between the red/black hawk?

One is a single action and the other is double action! Lots of operational differences between the two basic styles of revolvers.
