Ruger SUper Redhawk price check

Stopped by the local gunshop in OH where I purchased my Redhawk .44 about 2 months ago.

They had a Super Redhawk .480 Ruger 7 1/2 " that was used, but in excellent condition; the gun was tight, there was no cylinder ringing, good lock-up, etc.

They were asking $549. Initial haggling brought the price down to $499. I am interested, but uncomfortable with the price.

A search on www.gunsamerica.com showed n.i.b pricing running from $520 ~ $700. I am thinking of shooting (pardon the pun!) for about $475 for a "walk-out-the-door price".

I don't need this gun, but it is on my want-to-buy list.

Any feedback on the pricing would be greatly appreciated.

Gunshops do need to make some coin to stay in business, but I have no problem haggling. Some shops would rather sit on a gun in hopes that someone will buy it for their asking price, others will deal, especiallly if you have cash.

Go in, ask them if they will take $XXX cash and if they say no, then don't be afraid to just say, "OK, I'll keep looking..." If you don't NEED the gun. Very few of us actually NEED the gun, but if it is truly a good deal then chances are it will not be there in a month or week when you come in again. I passed on a K-22 a few months ago and I am still kicking myself. $279 and it was pretty nice. At the time I was stuck in buying a Wingmaster 870 that I thought I had to have. Be flexible. And carry some cash if you are serious.

I paid only $460 for a new SRH in 44 Magnum earlier this year. It pays to go to gunshows and shop around.

Thanks for the feedback

I have done a lot of research (Gunsamerica.com, etc) and have decided to wait. In addition, the wife is raising Cain since I just got the Redhawk .44 about 2 months ago.

If I see a good price, I'll jump.

Thanks again for all the suggestions and support.

Generally, the SRH in either .480 or in .454 will carry a $75-$100 premium over the same gun in .44 magnum.

Dealer cost

FWIW - the dealer cost on a 7.5 barrel .480 Super RedHawk is $523 (not including shipping). $499 is an excellent price for a new .480 SRH.

Question, Brad!

Where did you get the dealer cost for the SRH?

I have been very interested in being able to find dealer cost
for handguns and rifles.

Thanks for the info!

if your looking for a price check go to gunfinder.net , for ruger you'll get Davidson's price which I think is cost + 10%
