Ruger Super Redhawk for Hunting???

One of my hunting buddies is deadset on getting a hunting pistol for next year's deer season. He wants to get it early so he can get plenty of practice in since he's always been a rifleman. After a lot of looking and discussing, he's decided on 44 magnum and is getting serious about the Ruger Super Redhawk. My experience has been with S&W and Colt large frame revolvers. I am unable to give him pointers on the Rugers, so I was hoping ya'll can shed some line on these fine handguns. Our hunting area is thick and 70yds is about a maximum range for the areas. He is thnking open sights, but likes the Super Redhawk in case he decides to go with a scope.

1) Pro's and Con's of the Super Redhawk?
2) Accurate out of the box?
3) Any other info/suggestions?

Thanks for you help!

Can't say about the Redhawk, but my Blackhawk is amazingly accurate. I shoot 3" groups consistently at 25yds, 6-8" at 50 with iron sights. This from a guy notorious for missing the paper alltogether (me). In the hands of a better marksman I am sure it is capable of much better. I would imagine the Redhawk has similar accuracy.

Find a load that will give 1 1/2" or better at 25 yds. Use any one of the 240 grain bullets .There is no deer that needs anything heavier than the 240 despite what those who are into the 300+ fad claim. Practice practice practice !

What are the holster options for an unscoped 7 1/2 SRH? I've looked and found very little. Bianchi "Cyclone" is about it.

Love my SRH, 9 1/2" barrel, Bushnell 2-6x scope, carried in an UNcle Mike's Bandolier holster when hunting.

240gr Hornady HP-XTP, 24gr H110, Remington cases, CCI 350 primers, from a bench at 100yds. Orange circle is 3" in diameter.

Steve in PA's post says it all, the DRH is a very accurate revolver out of the box. The downside is it's a bit heavy, however, this also means it recoils like a pussycat, a VERY good thing when hunting.

After getting bifocals, I put a red dot sight on my Redhawk. I found the red dot sight easier to shoot than either open sights or a scope. The Redhawk will hold tight groups at 100 yds. if I do my part.

I really like Elpasso Saddlery, the quality is top notch, the corp also will do custom fitting etc...I also bought a Bandito holster at pistolpackaging. I bought the type you can convert from non scoped to scoped, very comfortable carry, good to go,just send them you measurments and they will custom fit your options you choose.
