I was at my local sporting goods dealer yesterday and they have a SRH 480 Ruger in the case. I would was really interested in this caliber but upon price comparion of the reloading componets as opposed to the 44 mag I elected not to get this revolver due to the high cost of reloading this caliber. I couldn't believe how much the bullets and cases cost to reload the 480 Ruger. Has anyone else noticed how expensive it is to reload for the 480 Ruger?

I think that maybe the Super Blackhawk Hunter 44 mag would be the best bet since I already load for the 44 mag and I really like the feel of this gun.

The cases are expensive, as are factory bullets. However, if you use cast bullets (your own, not someone elses) the reloading cost is more reasonable. The brass should last for quite a while. I bought about 200 and figure I should be in good shape for years.

The Lee mould was only $15, and a sizing die and top punch set me back another $20. For $35, along with a few five gallon buckets full of wheel weights (free), I can cast thousands of bullets. I really think that the 480 is ideally suited to heavy cast bullets. I am not sure that I really see any advantage to the factory bullets.
