ruger super blackhawk

For those who remember my post, I inherited my grandfathers 3 screw black hawk several months ago and I decided I would keep it as a shooter due largely in fact to how much I love this firearm. My question for everybody is, I have been looking for a 44 mag to use for deer hunting and up till I received my current black hawk was sold on a S&W 629. Well now its a dif story, I think I may want a super black hawk seeing as I have gotten used to single action and have been very impressed with ruger so far. Any reasons I should look at a smith more or should I say to hell with it let's keep with what I so far love? Any help appreciated

What barrel length do you have? If its 7-8 inches and you can shoot it well, hunt with it. I own a 629 and love it, how ever you leave nothing on the table by shooting a Ruger. I sure many will argue that the S&W would be a step down. Have fun:)

Don't be afraid to diversify. Check out the Redhawk too. It'll likely end up being heavier than either the 629 or Blackhawk.
I really had to go through a number of different grips on my N frame to find something that worked for me. The Redhawk worked out of the box. No fiddling needed. The big Ruger didn't have the same jeweled trigger of my worked over Smith but it cleaned up nicely with little effort.

It's hard to go wrong with a Super Blackhawk. Many prefer the Bisley Hunter variants for heavy recoiling 44s.

.

I've hunted with both .44 mag Ruger SBH (7-1/2" bbl) & S&W M29 (8-3/8" bbl), and have formed an opinion:

Since I shoot SA while hunting (for best accuracy), I vote for the fine S&W trigger pull over the SBH's comparatively heavy hammer fall (jarring the sights).

(The S&W's are usually more accurate for me)

I use to deer hunt with my Ruger Super Black Hawk 44mag with a 10 inch bull barrel.
The long sight radius made for easy iron sight shots and good accuracy.
Also being a Ruger you can run some really hot rounds in them that I know from personal experience will destroy a 629 S&W.

Be aware that the 3-screw Rugers had really nice trigger pulls. The newer pinned/transfer bar Rugers do not have that wonderful trigger. You may find yourself disappointed with the new models.

One good reason is that more guns are always better. Buy the S&W too.

I have used both. I like both. But I must add that the perceived recall from the Blackhawk is worse. Must be something to do with the shape of the grip and its vertical distance from the barrel. I do prefer the trigger on my S&W

Most shooters find the single action to be more comfortable. Recoil is typically transmitted in the form of muzzle rise where it can be absorbed by the wrists and arms. Whereas a double action transmits it directly back into your palm. Which just hurts.

Thanks everybody for your replies. I am keeping my eyes open and once I make up my mind I will post whichever for all here to see. Thanks again.
