When purchased, my SR1911 would not allow one to clear the chamber in the traditional manner, racking the slide and expelling the live round through the ejection port. Ruger's printed instructions show this method of clearing their product.
A call to Ruger, two times over several months yielded no joy. They know of the issue but refuse to remedy it. They say, remove the magazine, and jiggle the slide to free the round from the extractor and allow to tumble out the bottom of the magazine well. Unacceptable customer service.
Took the pistol to Hickman Rifles in Colorado Springs where they worked their magic on the slide and ejector, and now it is finally a safe pistol. Still shoots really good.
-1 to Ruger customer service.
+1 to Hickman Rifles.
