Ruger Speed-Six grips

the factory wood grips on my .357, Speed-six stick out too far and make using a speed loader all but impossible (really not speedy).

Does anyone have any experience with this Hogue grip?

Does it provide enough room to use a speed loader?

oops......... forgot, I'm using or trying to use an HKS Mark 3A speed loader. Would a different make clear the stock grip better?

When the Dan Wesson revolvers first came out we found that with the 'combat grip' if the cylinder was positioned just right one case would not be extracted !!! We took a file to the grip and notified DW.
So if it's too big the grip can always be cut down !
Don't be afraid to modify grips to fit YOU !

ouch

not that this thing will ever be of collector value, I've had this gun new since the early to mid 80s and still have original box n stuff. If I ran across a set of old grips, I'd start whittling.

But frankly you don't see a lot of Speed-Six stuff out there. lots of Security-six but not so much of the Speedy's.

hammer spur

Mavracer,

nice looking grips.

My speed-six has a hammer spur, I see yours does not. What year or SN prefix does ur Speed-six have? Mine is 160-.

I bought my Speed Six in 1977. Yours and mine use the second generation grips. I use a HKS speed loader Model M3. A little bit of a wiggle and the rounds go right in. I wouldn't change anything. I also figure if I ever had to use the gun in a self defense situation the chances of having to reload in a hurry are miniscule.

Mine is 157- so they're the same grip frame, you'll have to call Jim as he no longer has the six series on the Badger web site. Yes the front sight is a XS big dot, I used the one for a SP101 you just need to narrow the tab a little bit the SP is .125 and the speed six is .120

I've never used Hogues on a Ruger, but have had them on several Smith & Wesson's. No problem with speedloaders. I don't imagine they would on a Ruger either.

Back when I did have a Security-Six, I had Pachmayr "Grippers" on it, but I don't recall that I ever used a speedloader on the Ruger. Back then I just used speed-strips. I've got a set of grippers that came on a Smith & Wesson and I just checked and they have a speedloader cutout.
