Ruger Speed Six front sight

I have a Speed Six that I ordered a new front site blade for. I assumed that it would be pre-drilled with a hole for the cross pin, but it is not. I called Ruger back about it, but the woman who answered the phone wasn't of much help, other than to send me another blade. It too has no pre-drilled hole.

Should I call back and push a little harder, or is there a recommended way to get the hole drilled?

Insert the sight with a clamp to hold down - find the right drill size and drill it, Should work great.

Nope. Put the sight on, and insert a small punch (or a small marker) into the hole to mark its position. Then remove the sight and do a good center punch mark where the mark is. Using a drill the same diameter as the hole, drill the hole in the sight.

Install sight. If the holes don't match, either remove a bit from the sight in the right direction, or enlarge the hole with a small rat tail file.

The reason you don't want to just drill right through the existing hole is that the drill is small and if it wanders or wobbles you will expand the hole in the barrel, then the pin will be loose. You could even have the drill come out the wrong place and make the hole on the other side oblong.

They are sold that way for fitting. Put sight in, mark it, remove and drill. Do not drill with sight in place on barrel. A gunsmith can do this in about 5 minutes.
