Ruger Sp101 Questions

I just purchased a Ruger Sp101 for the missus of the house, used but in 100% shape looks to be fired very little.

My questions are:

Does anyone know of any web sites where I can get a replacement grip in rosewood? (She HATES the rubber grips! says they feel "tacky" ) :(

Also would like recommendations on a paddle holster.

Thanks.

Try Hogue, www.getgrip.com.

I just ordered a paddle holster for an SP101 from Galco. Hasn't arrived yet, so I can't give you much feedback. The tan is available right now but the black is back ordered for six to eight weeks.

how much did you pay, im looking at a used in excellent shape for $300 out the door. just wondering if its a good deal....

If you're looking for boot grips try www.eaglegrips.com. I bought a SP101 last year for $285 otd. I wasn't really interested in another mag snubby but it was nib and he made me such a great package deal on it and a GP100 i couldn't resist (he wasn't going to renew his FFL and was getting rid of his stock) I really love it. It's a great gun.

Slight caution: those funky rubber grips are actually very well designed to reduce recoil with .357 loads. If you're shooting full-house mag loads, you may find...that...you actually...MISS the rubber grips!

I've had really good experiences with FIST!

Also would like recommendations on a paddle holster.

I really can't say too much good stuff about my experiences with FIST leather holsters.

Their paddle holster, while somewhat spendy, is IMHO just about as good a paddle holster as one can get. http://www.fist-inc.com/holsters/holster/18.htm Each holster is custom made for your gun of choice.
Give them a good look. Good shooting ;)

Be sure and get replacement springs for your SP...incredibly easy to replace and it'll feel like you had a $50.00 action job (for all of $7.00).

I replaced my standard 'blocky' grips with the Hogue fingergroove rubber unit.
VERY NICE.
For some reason, the standard grip didn't fit my hand well. It IS designed to absorb the recoil, though.
The Hogue unit worked well and fit my hand better.
I suggest trying one of those. She might like it.

I'll check the places out. Thanks for the input.
Now what does every recommend as far as a good house defense load?
Got some "magsafe" 38 +P's in it now.

Think I have convinced the missus to at least try the rubber grips vs wood grips ;)

I found the factory grips to be outstanding. They were very ugly though, with the plastic insert. Not wanting to change the feel of the gun, I bought some wood inserts from brownells. The inserts are the same as for the 3 inch GP100 and improve the looks of the gun dramatically. Outside of that, the already mentioned eagle grips makes their secret service grips for the SP101. I've found these to be very nice looking and well designed on my 640. Leather has been a problem for me. Galco does not make their paddle holster for the 3 inch SP101 (I intentionally bought one with a 3 inch tube b/c I have a bunch of 2 inch revolvers and wanted something different).

You don't happen to live in VA, do you? There's a local guy who makes the best paddle holsters I've ever seen. You get custom work for the price of a Galco paddle. He's not online though. Small, one man operation and he's not on the net.

When I bought my first SP-101 several years ago, I went through about five different sets of grips trying to find the "ideal" set. This included the Eagle "Secret Service" grips which looked nice but never fit the frame well. I also bought the Hogue grips which are excellent. However, in the end I went back to using the factory grips! Just seem to work best for me. As for a holster, try the Milt Sparks "PMK". It is a belt holster, not a paddle, but is excellent for the SP-101. Tony designed this holster originally for his wife. http://www.miltsparks.com/

I would second the Hogue rec. Th wood Hogues look great and allow for speedloading with no probs. I found that the rubber Hougues and Pacmyrs caught my HKS speedloader and really slowed the load. This was also an issue to a lesser extent with the factory grips.
