Ruger SP101 question?

I just picked up a Ruger SP101 NIB today. Went out and shot it and it did just great. My question is : Is the ejector rod suppose to be really loose when the cylinder is out. It seems hooked on well but very sloppy, can wiggle it about 1/8" or so. Is this normal?

Thanks for any replies

Mine did the same and it was never a problem. I believe that the ejector rod is a serapate piece than the ejector plate and they're connected by what resembles a U-joint, hence the play.

When Ruger reengineered their DA revolvers, this included the cylinder assembly. The ejector rod on the old Security Six/Speed Six/Service Six series played an integral part in the lockup of the action. On the newer GP100/SP101s, lockup is accomplished through a latch on the yoke/crane which engages a recess in the frame (somewhat reminescent of the S&W Triple lock) and the ejector rod's purpose was reduced to one function: to eject the cases/cartridges.
