Ruger SP101 in the Hospital

New out of the box. :D I put 50 rounds through it last week, and had difficulty with single action cocking. Clean & lubed, I couldn't work the SA out. It felt like something was rubbing & preventing the hammer to come all the way back. I was going to break it down to see what was wrong. I figured my problem was in the area of the mainspring, but these old hands don't handle small parts very well these days ... :o so

I took it to the gunsmith, and this is really true. I was going to ask for some TFL opinions on what might be wrong. As I was writing the phone rang, and it was the gunsmith.

He told me I had a screw loose!!! (Not the first time I've been told that)

hmmmm,

Is this just another one of your "dishwasher" posts? Don't know if I can trust ya anymore, shattered faith and all....

Some who know you better might have suspected a loose screw for some time :D

Which screw though? Most all the parts inside an SP101 are held by pins, no? Isn't it like a GP 100 or redhawk with the trigger guard assembly that drops out in a unit, etc?

Curious.

utaherrn

No dishwasher trolling this time. It did happen...

I'm picking up the gun tomorrow, and I'll let you know which pin. :)

thr grip screw perhaps? It could have been that the hammer strut was installed backwards and was not clearing the grip screw...other than that there is only one other screw that I know of in the design and that holds the Cyl release in place.
