Ruger SP101 Click in Trigger

Finally got my SP101 shooting straight with the help of a good smith, but there's still a significant click in the initial phase of the trigger pull about half the time. Anyone know if this is pretty much a non issue or maybe it'll go away with time? It otherwise shoots fine. It's been to 4 smiths and there won't be a 5th so sending it off isn't an option.

Anklepocket,

I think you are refering to what Ruger calls the "Cylinder Latch".
As you begin to pull the trigger it disengages, and allows the cylinder to rotate. My SP101 makes an audible click when this happens. As the cylinder turns, and lines the next chamber up to the barrel, the cylinder latch engages the next stop notch, and again there is an audible click.

Look at your 101 from the right side, at the bottom & rear of the
cylinder. After taking the usual safety percautions, pull the trigger to watch & hear the mechanism operate.

Hope this helps. Best, RG

Thanks RG. The latest smith (#4 including a wasted trip to Ruger) really did some good work on it, but I think that I got a lemon. It's unfortunate as the SP101 has a great design and weight to it. He offered to give it another go which was very gracious and it's on the way. If I had to do it all over again I may have went with a S&W 60 or 37 or a Taurus 85UL. I've now got over $800 into this which is proof beyond a shadow of a doubt that I'm an extreme idiot. Hope others can learn something from my mistakes.

What was wrong with it?

Had a great trigger job done before the improperly installed barrel started bothering me. Sent it to Ruger to straighten out the barrel who undid the trigger job and didn't address the barrel. Had another smith say he could do the barrel, but didn't and charged me for a trigger job that he didn't do. Sent it to another smith who fixed the barrel, but the trigger is worse than ever, by far. It's on the way back and he's fully up to the task.
Probably sounds like I'm a jerk which I don't think is the case.

AnklePocket,

Sorry to hear your having so much trouble with your 101. I've had mine since the early 90's, and have had no trouble with it. Hope you get things resolved without further expense.
Best, RG
