Ruger SP-101 Holster...need help selecting! I have a hammered Ruger SP-101 with a 2 1/4" barrel and i would like to buy a holster. What have you found that works? Basically here is what i want: Molded.. thumbsnap, leather or nylon is fine, must be able to conceal the weapon under a plain t-shirt, paddle or belt holster is ok (not pocket or small of back), and must be comfortable...inexpensive is a plus too! I have been looking at the galco, bianchi and uncle-mikes holsters. I want one that is comfortable and concealed. Thanks for your help! Feel free to email responses to YZINGERR@aol.com. I carry mine every day in a Desantis IWB holster at around 1 oclock. I only paid $20 for it and I have no complaints. It's nylon but the only thing is it doesn't have a thumb break. It hides no matter what I'm wearing and It's comfortable standing, sitting, or driving. It holds the revolver pretty snugly so I don't worry about it falling out somehow. and the other thing I realy like is that it has a heavy duty clip rather than a loop so it's easy on easy off for short trips.

For some of my other guns I have Tauris and Wild Bill's holsters and they work quite well. There are other holster mfrs, also, but don't know their sites offhand.

i carry mine in a Mitch Rosen "Workman". Very comfortable and excellant quality. I believe there is another maker using this same design but I don't believe it could match the craftmanship of Mitch's. All are individually hand molded/tooled. While his products may cost a bit more than the mass-produced stuff, they're well worth the extra time and money. Remember, just like with firearms, you get what you pay for. Quality costs $.
 
I use a high-rise paddle from safariland (holsters.com) for my Windicator, the same one works for the SP-101.. It may be a bit high for some, but I find it's extremely easy to conceal, and resonably priced. It's semi-molded nylon with a well placed thumbsnap, easy to draw.
 
I am not sure if this will help because my holster choice does not have a thumb break and is not cheap, but it does work. I have been carrying one of my SP-101's in a Kramer IWB#2 on Kramer's double-thickness belts since 1995. I also have one of Kramer's belt scabbards when IWB carry is not possible (really only when I am wearing a suit).

I think the belt choice is as important as the holster choice. If the belt is too flimsy and/or sags, the gun will constantly be shifting (which makes it uncomfortable and may lead to printing).
