I figured that I might help you understand my obsession.

In this author’s humble opinion it is the best revolver ever offered by Ruger. As compared to a Smith and Wesson I'd say there is a tiny bit of travel in single action with nearly zero pressure behind it and while the single action may not be as crisp as a S&W; I like how smooth the double action trigger is compared to the Smith. I even think the Security, Speed, and Service six revolvers' DA triggers are better than other Ruger models, such as the GP100 and SP101. Also, Ruger revolvers tend to be low maintenance and are very easy for a novice to completely disassembly.

I'll go out on a limb and say that they are Ruger's best looking revolvers. Of course the competition for that title isn't too strong.

My shooting partner is pretty passionate about his Six, I think it's a stainless 6" Security six in .357. I know it likes my handloads and it's a pleasure to shoot.

Boy, that brought back some memories. I agree these guns were excellent examples of revolvers. I had the Security Six, and gave it to my son. It is still his main revolver today. I really never figured out why Ruger made the decision to stop production of these fine guns.

I "passed" on a blued one that was very nice a while back at a LGS . . . my problem was that they had two Smiths I wanted. I go the Smiths and later went back to see if the Ruger was still there - it wasn't.

I have a number of Ruger handguns - love all of them. This model though is really nice. Had I not found the Smiths (we all have our individual weaknesses :D) I'd probably be shooting one of these. Great revolvers and very nice photos! Thanks for sharing! :)

I got the revolver bug a few years ago and I looked and looked... what I settled on was a early (pre-150 S/N) security six with a 6" barrel in .357. Very forgiving gun to work on and very smooth shooting when broken in and the trigger smoothed out a bit. I love it and now have a passion for Ruger revolvers. Not an S&W hater by any stretch of the imagination... but I love Ruger revolvers.

I'm hooked ..the BEST Med. Frame revolver made in my book..(I consider the GP as a L frame)

. . .I really never figured out why Ruger made the decision to stop production of these fine guns.

Word on the street is they were just too expensive to produce and the company wasn't making any money off them. I'd be interested in knowing what changes they made in the GP-100 to offset the costs.

I think the general public is starting to come around

Prices indicate that a lot of people who didn't consider them to be fantastic guns are now snapping them up.

LOOOOOOOVE These Revolvers

I love the revolvers. I have 3 Speed-Six, 2 Security-Six, 1 Police Service-Six. I would not part with a one of them for any reason. They are the "perfect" size and weight for my mid-sized hands.

My Security Six sat NIB unfired in my locker for 27 years. I considered selling it so someone could enjoy it but decided that 'someone' should be me. I finally put a few hundred rounds through it last summer.
