Ruger single six

I have a single six and was wondering just how accurate it should shoot. It has a 6.5 inch barrel. I put a brass bead on the front and a red hawk hunter blade on the rear. It made my group smaller but it is still about 5 inches at 25 yards with some fliers here and there.

Also being a revolver is it possible for each chamber to shoot different. For example out of 19 shots 4 are touching a 5 o'clock on the X ring. 3 touching at 12 o'clock on the 9 ring. 3 touching at 6 o'clock on the 10 ring. 3 in a vertical 1 inch at 12 o'clock on the 10 ring group. With 3 kind of near the groups and the last 3 being 8 on 10, 9 on 9 and 10 on 9.

Am I expecting too much from it? Should I try filing the rear sight a little deeper and smaller?

Is it the convertible, and which cylinder are you trying to sight with?

At about 15 yards, I can keep the shots on the paper, but I only have the fixed sight model, and my grip isn't that steady. I did better with the adjustable sight version. The kind of ammunition you use definitely has an affect on accuracy with the Sixes. I've used Federal 40gr copper coated solid point .22LR to good effect. CCI Stingers would group, but they were consistently high and left.

I haven't had the opportunity to try other ammunition yet, and haven't tried to do much with the .22WMR cylinder. If I was getting your groups at 25 yards with open sights, I'd be pretty happy at this point.

Here is my Sinlge Six with a 25 yard off hand target shot with Federal bulk ammo. This is about 7 or 8 full cylinders.

I am going to try to mount a scope for the purpose of accuray testing various brands of ammo and to see how accurate the Single Six can be compared to my other 22s.

Also being a revolver is it possible for each chamber to shoot different.

You bet! One way to tell is to shoot some groups without using the cylinders which are suspect.

The magnums do shoot better. That is what I sighted it in with. I used Win Super X and CCI. The Super X was tighter. I guess this wouldn't be good for squirrel hunting but it still is a fun gun.

Any .22lr firearm should be shot with as many brands and makes of ammo that you can find. You most likely will find that it really likes 1 or 2 loads over the others and really shoot that load accurately.
Yes it is possible to have chambers that are different. To test that shooters mark the chambers and shoot groups using just one chamber at a time. Sometimes shooters find just one chamber that is way off spec and they permanently mark it so to know not to ever use that one.

Ruger Single Six

KYM i posted a similar question last month. I had just bought a New Single Six and was expecting the same accuracy as my old S&W M 17. Not to be, then again maybe it was me in my old age. I wanted a tack driver, but settled for tight groups at the various ranges. It is still a fun gun.
