Ruger Single Six opinions?

Just saw a Ruger Single Six, 5.5", blue, fixed sights.

Nice gun but I prefer the Color Case which Ruger does not offer in the Single Six. Could warm up to the satin stainless were it not for the adjustable sights.

Any opinions on the Single Six or are there better .22LR/.22WMR alternatives?

My single six has the color case finish. It is a 32 mag and not a 22 though

I believe (but I may be wrong) the only other .22LR/.22WMR combination in current production is the Heritage Rough Rider which I would not buy. There are some H&R combo revolvers that I've seen on the auction sites. I use my Single Six almost exclusively with the .22WMR cylinder and the accuracy is better with that cylinder than with the one for .22LR. Like most of the Ruger SAs it will probably outlast you.

My father bought me one new when I was 12, and I can't even guess how may rounds have gone down that barrel. It's still just as accurate today as it was then, and I still use it often. My daugher shoots it now.

Myself and two of my friends have all had problems with Ruger's "case hardened" finish. It's not true case hardening. It's just a finish applied to look like it. All it took was some shooting on a very hot day, and from handling, we sweat on the guns. Late that night, after going out to dinner, I went to clean the gun. The "case hardening" flaked off and left a spot of rust. It happened to all three of our Vaqueros that day.

Other than that one issue I have with that finish, I have absolutely no complaints about Ruger firearms. I wouldn't pass it up, everyone should have one.

The .32 is no longer part of the program in their 2005 offerings. They seem to be concentrating on the .17s now.

Hawgleg's experience has me hesitating about the color case. I'll try to work on my dislike of the adjustable sights on the Satin Stainless but I doubt that I'll overcome it.

Used ones with blue wear are cheap and plentiful. You can always find and old $150 3 screw and have it refinished to your likes. As mentioned, it's hard to wear one out. Besides the OM don't have all that ugly print on the barrel. They also have the 1/2 cock position and the SWEETEST cocking sound known to revolver fans. :p

p.s I have blue and stainless, NM and OM, all are sweet in their own way but it's hard to beat the Om in blue for eye candy.

The first gun I ever shot was my fathers SS single six. Funny thing is... I was 6  Obviously with help, but I grew up around guns and I always loved that wheelgun, I found as I got older that it was a very accurate and well made pistol. I am probably going to pick a new .17 version very soon.
