Ruger Single Six Grip Frame

I was wondering if the grip frame on the new models of the ruger single six's are painted. Mine seems to be because it is chipping on the back where it is gripped and on the bottom. I was just wondering because if so I was thinking about repainting mine when it does get in worse shape.

Some folks like to strip the frame of the paint and polish the aluminum brite and reinstall it for a nice looking contrast. I have never done it myself but have seen pics of it done. It looks good.

paint?

Painted probably is not the right term. The frames are of an alloy (not steel) and will not take bluing. Their coating is called anodized or anodizing.

Its not like they sprayed it with Rustoleum or something.

I don't own a single six, but I don't think that an anodized surface will chip off. It can be broken through, but the coating itself is very thin and really bonded to the underlying metal.

Actually, they probably did something pretty similar.

New Ruger aluminum grip frames have something like a powder coating in place of anodizing.

As best as I understand it, anodizing was something like a dye and electrolysis proceedure. Painting is far cheaper.
