Ruger Single Six Accuracy

Took my new Ruger Single Six to the range to zero today and left a little disappointed. Mission unaccomplished with both the 22lr and 22 mag. Had trouble focusing on the front sight blade but maybe that was my eyes and lighting. Took some Remington Golden Bullets, CCI Stinger and Predator Mag ammo. I adjusted the sights and at 50 feet could get them in the bull, but no consistent shot groups. Maybe it is my age (66), eyes or mentality, but once i was considered an above average marksman. I once had a S&W M17 8 3/8 inch barrel that was a tac driver. Unfortunately i sold it (bending over for my kick in the butt). In my mind i'm comparing the Ruger to the S&W and the Single Six seems to fall short. Just plan on doing some plinking with it, don't think i will ever hunt rabbits and squirels again. Any comments on ammo or the Sigle Six accuracy?

This is a pic of a TQ-15 target that was shot from 25 yds (75 feet).

The head shots are from a Ruger Single Six (5 1/2" barrel) and CCI Blazer ammo. Total rounds were about 100 I think.

The COM shots were from my Sig P-220 (.45acp), round count being 50.

My 70's era Single Six was never very ammo sensitive. Never really played with the magnum cylinder very much,(less than a couple boxes), but empty 12 gauge hulls at 25 yds. from a rest is pretty routine. I bought the gun new,
my current play ammo is Federal HP's in the milk carton bulk pack. Cheap fun...

I would have to say it is you not the gun I know from experience. I had always wanted a Ruger Single Six so finally got one. BUT I found that nothing I did could make me shoot that gun accurately. I could let other people shoot it and they thought it was great. Some said it was because of it being SA and the long hammer throw so then why can I shoot my other Ruger Blackhawks so well.I finally just sold it to a friend who can put all six shots in a space the size of a quarter

My single six wasn't too bad with LR ammo, but the magnum ammo sucked. Tried several brands. Settled on Remington. Never was totally satisfied with the magnum cylinder. Eventally traded it away. Not sorry either.

My Single Six likes the High Speed 37 grain HP's and the 40 grain solids. It won't shoot worth a damn with the ultra velocity stuff (Vipers, etc.). It shoots better with the magnum cylinder than with the .22 LR cylinder. It won't equal a K-22 (and I own two of those) with either cylinder.

In defense of the Ruger, very few other of my guns will shoot with the K-22's either.

I have some cataract problems and do not see the front sight all that well. Have another fellow with good eyes and skills wring it out for you. If he doesn't have the same results, maybe a different front sight setup would help.

If it isn't an eye problem and you consistently get poor groups with various types of ammo, some trigger work and barrel crowning job might help.

I use to pick off chipmunks and small ground squirrels with my Fathers at ranges of 25-30 yards. Very consistantly as well, I'd say 9 out of 10 shots.

Majic i shoot a couple of times a year. I did spend 22 years in the Army and fired a lot then. I think it is a combination of eyes, i do have some problems, ammo and trigger pull. I seem to anticipate the round firing. Anyway i will go back and try again. I can get the same results that the previous posts showed. I want a tighter shot group. Don't think i will ever hunt again, but i want to be able to hit a coke can each time. I think i'm trying to get the same results that i got from my S&W M17 years ago. Thanks for the replies.

Not sure if they even make a mount ,there is always a Red Dot scope.Lot of older guys have gone to them,LIKE ME on a few of my guns :) All my Rifles have had to get scopes can't see the sight anymore
