Ruger Single action Question

I was out shooting my new Bisley Vaquero and noticed something that seemed odd; when the loading gate is open to remove the fired cases, the detent position on the cylinder is not lined up to the loading gate or to use the extractor to remove the case. so when I held the empty gun up to drop the cases, if I turned the cylinder clockwise past the fired case, I could not back the cylinder up, I had to spin it around again.

I stopped at the gun shop where I bought the gun and checked out another Vaquero, and it was the same. Unfortunately I do not have the manual yet to look at.

Am I doing something wrong or just dont know how to load/unload it correctly? This is my first single action.

I will post pic.

thanks all
jeff

That is a no extra charge design feature of the New Model Rugers.

They all do it.

Old Model Rugers, Colts and clones line the chamber up with the gate as the hand ticks over the ratchet.

I don't know the mechanical details of the New Model transfer bar action but either they could not make the chamber line up with the gate as the hand clicked or they just did not bother to. You just have to eyeball the unloading-reloading position and stop each chamber in line with the gate.

Ron Power sells a "free-spin" pawl that will let the cylinder back up with the loading gate open. A friend of mine installed two recently. One was a piece of cake, done in 20 minutes, the other took hours of stoning and trying.
