Ruger service

What is the typical turn around time for a handgun from Ruger service? I guess that depends on what is wrong with fire arm. But in general how long? Thanks for your input.

I've had service and return in 2 1/2 weeks. There's a member here that goes by smaug. He had to wait about 9 or 10 weeks. There's a whole long thread on the revolver forum you can read, just look up posts by smaug. It seems a lot of people are dissatisfied with Ruger's service these days, or at least with their QC. Smaug's post is titled something like "Well, I blew the barrel off my gun today"

When the barrel broke off on my Redhawk, it took 9 weeks. (this was last month)

They ignored by request to replace the broken 7.5" barrel with a 5.5" barrel. I don't know if they ever made a stainless Redhawk with the 5.5" barrel, so that may be why.

I just got it back in time for hunting season.

When I bulged the barrel on my P90 from a reloading error, it only took them 3-4 weeks. (that was probably 6 years ago)

Smaug- They make a stainless 5.5" which is why I told you that they would probably grant your request. I see them all the time. Sorry I was so wrong. Bad Ruger, very very bad.;)

Yes indeed Ruger made a 5.5" stainless Red Hawk, I have one in .357.

I recently sent my Ruger LCP back to Ruger for a safety recall and it took ten days to get it back from them...

I had a problem with a Ruger .44 Mag Blackhawk and since I live in the Peoples Republic of Illinois, I contacted the State Police to determine how to send it off for warranty work. Seems like I am not allowed to receive my own property from Ruger after repair, but must go thru a dealer and the whole FFL routine. The price the dealer quoted me (the one that sold me the gun) was about equal to taking it to a local gunsmith and having the work done here.
Ain't life grand!

Bama46 - Try to have your gun store ship it. The one I used, GAT Guns, picked up the shipping tab. They said they would try to get Ruger to pick up the tab. I didn't pay shipping either way.

I had just bought the gun there the week before though, so that may be the difference.

You could also call Ruger and see if they'd send you a shipping label.

That is how I do it. I just bring my gun to the shop, along with a note describing the problem, and the guys at the gun shop, box it up, then send it in. The most I ever had to pay, was $25 for shipping(one way). When they get it back. they call me to pick it up. I just have to show my FOID and drivers license.

Some manufacturers require you to call to receive a Return Authorization number, before sending the gun in. I never had to send anything back to Ruger, so I don't know their policy.

First of all, this incident happened several years ago, secondly, the issue is not in the shipping of the gun...anyone can ship it, but the IL. State Police told me I could not RECEIVE it after it was repaired, even tho it was my property. The gunshop where I bought it wanted $50.00 to receive it from Ruger after it was repaired... I went to a local smith instead and got it fixed...
You will find if you read the literature that Ruger does NOT offer any warranty on their products, but rather will repair anything they make for a "nominal fee"
