Ruger Security Six

I acquired a Ruger Security Six in .357 that had been used for a college Law Enforcement class. It is plainly marked Security Six, but has fixed sights (like on a Service Six) instead of the adjustable sights usually fond on a Security Six. I've never heard or seen reference to this variant. Anybody out there have any ideas?

Do you have the "Police" version with the 3 or 4" barrel? Great guns. My kind of pistol--beat it on an anvil with a 10lb. sledgehammer and it keeps working.:D

KSF--It doesn't have Police stamped on it anywhere, but is was used for training as part of a college LE course.... Was there a Police Security Six version that had fixed sights ala Service Six? I was issued a .38 Service Six in the Army during one of my tours in the ROK...great pistol...not as ragged out as the Colts & SW's we had before...

I've got a Security - six chief,What a great little pistola!
Mine's the adjustable flavor in stainless, great little personal defense pistol or even better backpacking piece of mind!
:D

A friend of mine has a blue Security Six with fixed sights, before I saw his I thought that such an animal didn't exist. It must have been mismarked at the factory is all I can figure out. The Security Six is a very tough pistol that will last you a life time with just basic care.

One of my books, I think the '99 Standard Catalog of Firearms, says that there were early ones made this way. Then they started marking them Police Service Six.

I'm at work or I'd look it up.

JohnBT is correct...the early fixed-sight Ruger "Sixes" WERE marked "Security Six", just like the adjustable-sighted ones...don't remember exactly when the changeover occured, but the sample you have would seem to be a "Keeper", just based on it's "Uniqueness" factor....mikey357

Thanks for the info, guys....it's a good shooter, too. Seems like the school didn't use it a whole lot and spent most of it's like locked up, which caused some deterioration of the finish. Had it bead-blasted & matte black finished---now I need some rubber grips to replace the original wood and I'll have another IWB pistol.....

My Security Six has a 6" barrel and adjustable sights. I bought it in 1977 at a store where a well-known assassin purchased his weapon. It was only the second gun I ever owned (the first was a Stoeger "Luger").

In 1977 Rugers were fitted with somewhat more attention to detail than they are today, although the cylinder (in my gun at least) would sometimes bind. Back then I thought the Colt Python was better than any Ruger, but I couldn't afford one at the time.
